The movie was way better than I expected, loved the nods to the games, the reference to the TV show.

Wish we would have seen Yoshi, got to see a Yoshi egg though.

People can talk trash about Chris Pratt all they want be he did a good job as Mario.

The Rainbow Road sequence was awesome.

The movie was really great and I hope we get a sequel.

The Mario and Donkey Kong fight had the obvious references to The Donkey Kong game.

The Tanooki suit sequence was really cool as well.

illumination did a really good job with the animation.

There was a stampede in the background of the travel scene. I thought it kinda undercut the post-credits scene tbh.

Yeah, I was surprised that I didn't really "hear" Chris Pratt at all. He put a lot more effort into it than I expected, especially given the initial trailer.

My only problem with the movie is that it ended. I can't wait for the sequel.

They were really smart to take that out of the movie.

Honestly, all the voice cast was solid. The only miss was Cranky Kong.

I kinda liked the new interpretation of Cranky. True to form would have been more like Abe Simpson and I just don't think that would have been very entertaining.

Disagree, it wasn't even just an interpretation the voice didn't match whatsoever and Fred Armisen was trying real hard to make him funny but the issue is they didn't give him anything funny to say. It was the worst part about the movie, as a Mario fan anyways. The movie as a whole has a whole lot of problems, many I'm willing to look past because I like fanservice.

I loved when the one Koopa questioned Bowser and he burned him into a dry bones.

It was such a huge overcorrection compared to the nightmare fuel movie from the 90s. Kid me would have loved it, that would have been exactly what I wanted to see as a kid, just an entire 90 minute movie of just references.

I'm actually glad it took this long to make because it incorporates all the mario properties from the 2000s, compared to the 90s movie that came out before even super mario 64 existed.

I have to say though, reusing the premise of them being actual plumbers from Brooklyn was so weird. With them actually doing plumbing stuff with plungers and wrenches that seemed bizarre to me.

It was reusing the premise from the TV show though, not the movie. I'm glad they went with it. Had they actually tried to make it so that they came from a stork delivery it would have been so dumb.

Though I don't know what the implications for peach are.

I loved that they embraced that aspect of the Mario lore. Even did a shoutout to Wrecking Crew

Mine was the licensed music. The game tracks were a lot more fun.

Keegan-Michael Key as Toad was the best part.

I like the song, I just didn't want it in the movie.

Yeah movies need to stop putting "Holding Out For a Hero" in their movies unless it's going to beat Shrek 2 use of it, because that was perfect.

I mean, that is the backstory in Mario Bros...

It felt like the most obligatory "let's put this here" song ever. Actually most of the 80s soundtrack felt that way, I usually never notice this in other movies when people bring it up, but it was damn noticeable here.

I like those songs okay enough I just liked it more when they did actual Nintendo orchestra soundtracks instead. The remixed tracks of classic themes felt way better and tied in to the whole "90 minute well crafted commercial" that made the movie so fun to watch.

Nah in Mario Bros they were in Manhattan and the princess was Daisy and also everything about the movie was rancid ass

I overall liked it and it's one of the better video game movies.

It was missing that heart that a lot of kids movies have though. Like there wasn't enough time truly dedicated to a single relationship to pin the themes of the movie on. Mario sorta bounces between a few characters for only a couple of scenes each.

To be fair I have a kid now so I think my standards for kids movies has been raised a fair bit recently. Kids movies are often overlooked with how they can hit you right in the feels and Mario didn't quite get there for me.

Ah the end of the day it's about Mario earning the respect of his family. He didn't get to spend a lot of time with them but it's clear that it's on his mind the whole time as it's the first thing he talks about with Donkey Kong after rainbow road.

That's part of the problem. It's about that for 2-3 scenes in the movie. Just like how it's about Mario's relationship with Luigi. Or Mario's relationship with Peach. Or Mario's relationship with Donkey Kong.

It's about all of these things and also barely about these things because the movie doesn't have time to actually flesh any of it out. It's more like lip service referencing relationship themes that are done better in other movies that take the time to focus on them.
