I personally shop at Walmart way more. The local Target is nicer and doesn't feel as depressing inside but the cost of goods is a bit higher. I'm not sure that I'm willing to spend more just to avoid a less drab environment. Also self checkout at Walmart ensures that I don't have to deal with anyone directly there often.

Just checked if Asda is still owned by Walmart.

It is, kind of. So there.

Shop at Wal*Mart like once or twice a year and there are no Targets left in Canada, so I have to choose Wal*Mart.

Wal*Mart, but that is largely because it is adjacent to a grocery store that I frequent.

Yes, Wal*Mart has groceries, but this Wal*Mart does not have a produce section.

Walmart

The closest Walmart to me is about 5 minutes from my house. The closest Target is 20 minutes.

There are two additional Walmarts that are closer to me than that Target.

Target. Only go to Wal-Mart for emergency situations. Last time was about 3 or 4 years ago when they were the only place open at 5 in the morning, and a waterline in my house had busted and flooded everything. Had to get a wet vacuum.

Walmart every few months for cheaper groceries.

The only reason for me to go to Target is for clothes, which is every few years.

Target. I can walk to a small one and a large one is a close drive. Target mail order also works really well. I used to be able to walk to two Walmarts, but they closed. But I'll usually go to CVS or a supermarket before either one.

Multiple Targets near me (at least half a dozen within 10 miles), only one Walmart within like 30 miles

And when I used to live near that one Walmart (~2 miles), visiting it was a nightmare because it was gigantic and understaffed for 3 years so I avoided going there as much as possible. So it's Target 4 me.

Walmart & Target are both about 10-15 mins from me. I rarely go to Target. Their departments mostly suck, the mens dept seems to shrink everytime I go there and Target in general tries to be more trendy and hip.
Where Walmart has clothes for everyday people (I'm in my late 30s), and a full grocery section at the one I go to.

Target. I just avoid Wal Mart completely, and since Kmart is long dead - Target is the next best thing for stuff like socks or towels.

I tend to go to specialty stores or locally owned chains when I can.

As long as I have a Walmart and a Sprouts, I'm good.

Never really understood the hate for Walmart. It just always seemed to stem from a weird "eew, poor people" mindset. Maybe not explicitly, but...I don't know. Probably not.

I understand that some stores have better ambience...but it's grocery shopping man. Walmart has a large selection and good prices.

They treat their employees poorly, act like all their customers are thieves the second they walk in the door, engage in scummy business practices, and aggressively force other businesses out of the area to establish a monopoly.

Yes, I know all of these points also apply to other businesses, but Walmart dials each and every last one of them up to 11.

I'll gladly add an extra $20 to my grocery bill it if's supporting a different business.

If the reasons are ethical reasons, then yeah. By all means shop where you need to.

Walmart is cheaper so I try to shop there when I can, but unfortunately target is closer to my home. I hate how Target charges an extra 5% if you dont sign up for their credit card (dont play semantics. This is the same thing as getting 5% off if you get the credit card).

I will say in my experience southwest Walmarts are much nicer than Northeast Walmarts. Targets are the same everywhere.
