s2g when I joined, haircuts were as little as $7. Still can get the same fucking haircut but it costs triple.

Hell, in Kuwait the haircuts were 9 fucking dollars this year. And those were haircuts by actual trained barbers, not these bullshit ass 'stylists' the on post 'Barber Shop' hires.

Might as well get my own fucking clippers and razors and join the fucking bald gang.

That's crazy. Haircut cost has definitely gone up all over the US, I'd like to see an inflation tracker on that

That seems like a lot for that style of hair cut.

A basic haircut here is about 35 now. Inflation be inflating!

I've always cut my own.

I would just shave my head if I was in the military. This is assuming Im just an enlisted grunt and not an officer.

oh i thought you were like 18-22. You wanna stay in the military for like most of your life? i hear the pay is not good at all. Prob the overwhelming majority of military guys leave when they're like 22. Like something to take the place of college for those yrs

I wouldn't join the military, because they don't let you have hair. But if I did, I would get my own razor and buzz it myself. That's what my dad does.

Thats the same price as great clips and you can style it however, you request.

I joined in 2010 and haircuts were only around $5 on post. Years they may have been around $10 when I finally decided to buy my own clippers since I only got low fades anyway.

Saved me a fortune.

The pay isn't the greatest but I'd have to be making a lot more to cover housing, insurance and the like that I get for free

Depends on branch and job in your branch (to some degree)

Besides two 9 month rotations to Kuwait, I've always been stationed Stateside and I like it that way

Just go bald and you don't have to pay for them again

Great Clips is over $20 too.

During the pandemic I started to do my husband's hair, and I've been doing it ever since. Every 2-3 weeks he needs a touch-up to keep his military cut, so it saves us a lot of money.

I assumed guys in the barracks just shaved each other's heads.

Besides going on leave, I don't see my family.

You can get married and have a family.

I've known some people who got lucky and were from towns/cities next to bases, get stationed at the base so family is near.

Honestly though, having family near can make the job harder, especially when you do have to go away for extended periods of time.

I used to take advantage of the hair school in the town I went to university for like $8 haircuts. Since I didn't have anything special going on it was usually worth it.

If you're in the military haircuts should be on the house or at least as close to cost as possible. Either that or let those in non combat roles wear their hair they way they want.

If its required then it should be covered. Thats dumb might as well go bald and shave yourself.

iirc haircuts is one of the places where cost has greatly outpaced inflation. Like maybe the top spot. the excuse i heard is that it can't be automated or sped up a lot faster

Just shave it all off and then use a Bic lighter to burn any remaining stubble for that classic Lex Luthor look, TC.

I wouldn't know, I only get my hair cut once a year and my stepmother does it for free.

I think the people cutting hair are on active duty and that's how they make money on the side

I stopped paying for my buzz when it went up to 19 bucks, I got myself a clipper and never went back.

It was like that much before I left in September last year

I did the math once, and in 8 years in the Marine Corps I probably spent over $5,500 on haircuts.
