"Go to the floating coliseum and beat the 5 lynels there"

Ok got it. So to get gear that will help me do more challenging things in the game, I just need to do the single hardest challenge in the game over and over. makes sense.

Don't forget to throw enough good gear at them to make up for all the good gear you'll get beating 'em.

Lynels aren't really worthwhile unless you make a weapon specifically for killing them from their backs (which doesn't use up durability). The weapons they drop in the second game are also kind of trash, it's still decayed crap (which also makes them a lot less potentially damaging than the ones in BOTW), so only their bows and fuse materials are really worth farming.

If it's base weapons you need, it's best to look around the underground for freebie pristine weapons from the ghosty dudes. Royal Guard weapons (doubled power when near breaking, quadrupled power on its final hit; the claymore is the primo choice for aforementioned Lynel-killer weapon once you get it down to 1 durability), Gerudo weapons (double fuse power), and Zora weapons (doubled power if wet) are the popular ones to go after, but they will only show up in certain regions so make sure you aren't wasting your time trying to find them in areas where they have zero chance of showing up.

Also if you get really good stuff, it helps to try not to let it break. The Rock Octoroks in the Eldin region will actually fully repair one piece of equipment for you (and reroll its special modifier) if you drop it on the ground and let them inhale it, which is something they weren't capable of doing in the first game. Each Octorok will only do this once (per blood moon), but if you note where all the spawns are, there's more than enough to let you maintain a solid arsenal.

Seems a bit complicated when you can just get by just fusing your good horns you will assuredly collect over time just killing whatever.

There's nothing wrong with using midling gear and fuse material. You don't need to farm silver Lynels for 3 hours to get useful weapons.

At no point while playing the game did I ever need to get the absolute bestest weapons. I mostly just grabbed the solider/knights/royal stuff the monsters dropped regularly attached some common monster parts and killed shit. I was never in need of weapons and had no real issue beating the game.

Its a system that pretends to have depth but really its all a bit pointless.

  • Fuse 2 chests together and get a lynel to try to break it. It never breaks. The Lynel just keeps screaming at it like an angry child.

  • There's a lone Silver one at Nautelle Wetlands, south of lake Hylia. Kill him and get the 2 strongest horns in the game and the bow.

  • ???

  • Profit

Is it possible for a royal guard weapon to get the critical health amplifier? Im imagining a lynel slayer that has quadruple damage but then doubled when youre at 1 heart. Though Im not sure if theres a reliable way to get yourself to critical health at whim?

It's the Knight weapons that do that, not the Royal Guard ones. The Royal Guard weapons do double damage at low durability.

However, you can get a Royal Guard weapon down to 1 durability, and it will then do quad damage. I'm pretty sure this is an exploit / unintended behavior, but it does indeed work that way. You can either then fuse a silver Lynel saber horn, or a Molduga jaw which will actually do more damage if you use the Radiant set + a food with attack boost on it. Either way, it still massacres Lynels.
