The costs are ridiculous and insurance barely covers anything. Why do I feel like I'm the only one mad about this? At work all I hear is "Well at least we don't have to wait in line." No that's stupid. Health care here isn't that great to be paying what we do. Instead everyone is worried about culture war bs. It gets worse every year. No one seems to care.

  • Insurance/Pharmaceutical companies are heavily involved in lobbying so that politicians vote for legislation which favors their profits and veto potential legislation viewed as a threat to their profits
  • Many Americans in desperate need of healthcare have overlapping financial/job struggles which make prioritizing their healthcare difficult, let alone actively seeking it out or being involved in healthcare reform activism
  • A shitload of Americans lack the ability to vote for their own interests because they've been brainwashed into thinking any tax money not spent on national defense is "socialism"

People are ridiculously depressed about the state of the country and distracted by pointless shit.

It all ends up in a cycle where things get worse and worse and people just accept less and less.

There might be a breaking point, there might not be. But one things for sure, it is likely to get worse and there is currently nothing that looks like it is going to lead to things being better...

My uninformed opinion on why nothing is being done is because it's such a huge industry. You would need to make changes not only in hospital and hospital like places but individual doctors, smaller offices, and labs plus more. PLUS you would be messing with the insurance industry as well.

It isn't a simple fix. It's a whole large mess of various and numerous systems that are all part of the problem.

Plus those people have tons of lobbyists.

I was on my states Medicaid for about 5 and a half years(currently on employer provided health care), and it was great, hardly any co-pays, and if there was one it was a buck or two. I almost never had a problem finding a doctor that would take it, with the exception of a dentist, the closest one that would take it was a 35 minute drive.

The only ones who don't actually care are Republicans, Democrats just care about disappointing things and/or to a disappointing degree.

Let's not forget that it was Republicans & Manchin who are the reason that only those on Medicaid have their insulin price capped at $35, when it was meant to be for everybody. And even that $35 cap in and of itself is pretty big for improving U.S. healthcare.

It's just that for those of us who see no logical reason we don't already have a similar system to every other industrialized nation, it's going to feel like nothing is ever being done.

Which is why I say they care to a disappointing degree, because they find these niche focal points that while helping certain people, and obviously any improvement is better than no improvement, the establishment Dems don't want to overhaul the whole system in the necessary way it needs to be.

A civilized nation shouldn't have a system where insurance companies treat health like auto insurance, where insurance companies have the ultimate say in what treatments someone is allowed to undergo.

You could replace socialized medicine with [x] and you'd still be describing the US most of the time. Gun violence, living wage, women's bodily autonomy...

For the "greatest country in the world" it seems to have a lot of problems other developed countries just don't.

Good. Taxes and public programs are great. Modern society would collapse into chaos without them.

But things would objectively be a lot cheaper if we excised the corporate cancer from healthcare, which inflates healthcare costs by orders of magnitude. It is immoral to turn life-essential medicine into a commodity, a luxury. Lots of people deserve to be locked up in prison for the rest of their lives for what they have done, including the politicians in their pockets who have no incentive to fix the problem.

Do you actually believe insulin costs up to 4 figures? That a visit to the hospital is an automatic quarter million to start?

Yes, it's a symptom of the societal sickness that is "American exceptionalism".

"Every other industrialized nation guarantees their populace has easily accessed healthcare all their life free from "magnanimous employers"? Nah, fuck that, us NOT having that proves we're better!"

It really is so asinine that it's indoctrinated a large portion of the population into at times actually reviling alternative methods that would actually serve them better just because "everybody else is doing it".
