NSMB had no soul

Something about it always bothered me. When I played Super Mario Maker, I tried to avoid the NSMB themed stages.

Also I'm mostly excited for the MGS Collection even though I already own all of those games. I don't like having to haul out my PS3 from storage just to play those games. Hopefully MGS2 and MGS3 are the HD versions from the 2011 collection.

a mgs collection would interest me more if mgs4 could be played on literally anything other than a ps3

like this is the third or fourth mgs collection and not a single fucking word about mgs4 ever.

Never knew anyone disliked the NSMB games, they were basically just more/new Mario, which is never a bad thing.

It wasn't so much active dislike in most cases as it was that there were just too many in a short time frame with no particular differentiating features. The first one had a pretty lukewarm reception, but Wii was very well received. The issue was that Wii came in November 2009, then 2 came out in August 2012, and U came out in November 2012. Where none of them really had a unique identity beyond "Hey look we're making 2D Mario again!", it got really stale. I didn't even play 2, and I still wasn't ready for U when I got my WiiU in December 2012. I played it a bit, couldn't get into it, then came back like 6-8 months later and had a blast because I was in the mood for another one by then (and it was really good).

Now, of course, it's been like a decade since the last one (U Deluxe aside), mostly because Mario Maker has been filling much of the demand for 2D Mario, so I'm game for another one. It doesn't exactly look groundbreaking or even notably different from NSMB, but it should be a pretty fun time.

Most likely. They just called it a graphical upgrade, and moving away from the level system would require a pretty substantial overhaul of the whole game (enough work that they might as well just make a new game at that point).

The most disappointing thing about Wonder is that they're still doing grassland, desert, snow, forest, etc. that they always do. The 3D games are always creative with their settings, but when it comes to 2D, they're unwilling to mix it up.
