Shrek posted... to be fair, bethesda trademarked starfield back in 2013 Doesn't really mean much, studios change stream in the middle of development all the time. It's certainly possible that Starfield got a few years into development, then they saw what No Man's Sky was doing and decided they liked that better and pivoted their own design to copy it (scrapping anything they'd already worked on in the process). Plenty of major studios have done something similar (usually to the detriment of the final game).
