Maybe my perspective is biased, but I've seen the "LGBT are grooming children" narrative often enough, even irl, that I can tell that it's a very common belief and not just something a butthurt minority of bigots believes. It's hard for me to get angry at them because I still think for most people it comes from a place of concern and ignorance rather than hatred. I just want whatever would make most people happy.

Surgical alteration of the body to treat medical issues is nothing new. In every case, it comes with risks, both that it will fail to treat the problem and that it will create new problems. To that end, surgery isn't even suggested unless it's felt that the benefits will outweigh the risks, and the patient is made fully aware of those risks such that they can make an informed decision to consent to the process.

So... no, I'm not concerned that people are making an informed decision to have surgery to fix a health problem after consulting extensively with multiple doctors to arrive at the conclusion that surgery is most likely to be the best treatment option for them. And neither should you or anyone else be. Yes, there are risks, and medical due diligence is not always followed, but that's true of every medical procedure and that's why God invented malpractice lawsuits. Gender-affirming care is no different, and you are doing the exact opposite of helping by trying to interfere with those providing it. So stop.

This is nothing more than bullshit fearmongering regurgitated by people whose entire understanding of the situation comes from Carlson and his ilk exaggerating and misrepresenting the matter for literally no other reason than that strong emotional reactions lead to better TV ratings.

Nobody, absolutely nobody is responding to a 4-year-old boy saying that he thinks he might be happier as a girl by immediately chopping his dick off. At any age, when somebody expresses feelings of gender dysphoria, gender-affirming care starts by exploring those feelings to determine how genuine they are (even in young children, this is something a competent therapist can usually figure out). If they are genuine, efforts to live as the target gender start with easily reversible things: New clothes, unofficial name changes, new pronouns, and other such things. If that goes well, puberty blockers will be started at the appropriate time, which do have a medical effect, but are also pretty easily reversible (when they stop, puberty starts/resumes more or less without issue, albeit later than it otherwise would have). It's only after several years of living comfortably as the target gender (which is regularly assessed by their therapist) that more significant, irreversible transitions are considered, by which point the patient is at least an older teenager (who can competently make their own decisions about their medical care) if they aren't actually an adult.

There are legitimate concerns around those that are trying to be supportive of trans people taking that support and encouragement too far and actually pressuring people who don't feel genuine dysphoria into transitioning, concerns that are particularly relevant when dealing with children, but that's pretty rare (at least, vastly rarer than somebody who does feel genuinely dysphoric being denied gender-affirming care) and is best solved not by resisting gender-affirming care across the board (which denies it to those that need it and kills people in the process) but rather by letting the science evolve freely so those treatments and diagnostic criteria get refined to improve accuracy and results. This pearl-clutching "won't someone think of the children?" bullshit only makes things worse. You're not helping, so fuck off.

I know someone who is AMAB and cis, but due to complications from Long Covid he needs to take testosterone. He also has a first name that is often mistaken for female. He just had a pharmacist refuse to fill his prescription because he "did not feel comfortable giving testosterone to a woman."

Transphobes are not just hurting trans people, they're hurting everyone.

Even worse than that, even if your friend were a trans man and the pharmacist wasn't just making ignorant assumptions, if he'd been taking testosterone for a while already and was forced to quit cold turkey, that would cause significantly worse health problems than maintaining that hormone therapy ever could. That pharmacist should have his license revoked immediately, because undermining doctors (i.e. the actual medical professionals who understand what's going on beyond the 4-5 words written on the prescription) like that is going to kill people. Your friend should look into whatever licensing system exists for pharmacists in his area and try filing a complaint.

It often comes from a place of concern and ignorance, but it's not excusable ignorance. There are reams upon reams of information out there that at this point demonstrating the reality of the situation, which is that "they're grooming your kids!" is nothing more than fearmongering from sensationalist pundits and politicians who want to scare them out of voting for opponents, none of which has any actual basis in reality. Anyone who doesn't understand that at this point is choosing to hide behind their ignorance so they can keep feeling like their good intentions are helping. If you "just want what's best" but refuse to think about and research what's actually best to guide your actions, those good intentions are nothing more than self-righteous masturbation and should be treated accordingly. If they refuse to fix ignorance that's causing harm, that's functionally identical to hatred that causes harm.

Not everything is an agenda. You really don't see their argument at all? You have a different viewpoint than them, and you want your viewpoint pushed on their children against their will.
What if it was the other way around? Your kid was enrolled in school, and the teachers were hanging crosses on the walls and pushing bible study on your kid. I imagine you'd probably be pretty pissed.

People really seem to have a problem with boundaries these days. Schools are meant to teach basic skills, not what to believe or not believe. That's called indoctrination, and it's wrong no matter what side you're on.

This is mostly in response to the bisexual guy who bought into this "gay agenda being pushed onto kids" bs. I also know there are a lot of conservatives here who just won't say it because they don't want to be banned.

Your kids go to school to learn. You can't just pick and choose things you don't like that you don't like, call it an "agenda", and get a bunch of laws passed to hide that thing. That's not how this works. Explain why that thing is wrong, why that thing shouldn't be taught in schools, or fuck off. But you can't do it. It's much easier to mentally plaster "gay agenda" to the massive amounts of gay and trans porn you've been consuming and pretend it's inappropriate.

Lovely, let's parse this.

I don't have a round earth agenda. I don't have an earth's crust agenda. I don't have a dinosaur agenda. I am the one without an agenda. I am passive towards these things that have been objectively scientifically accepted. Kids go to school to have these "agendas forced on them against their will". It's called learning.

If it were the other way around, then I would have a problem. It's because cults and peer-reviewed medicine and science are two different things. If some cult consciously decides they have an issue with vaccines, and we teach kids how vaccines work in school, then I obviously prefer the world that teaches the reality.

Kids obviously don't learn about homosexuality in math. They learn about it in sex ed if at all, and to that end it's to keep them educated and safe. If their teacher is a happily married lesbian and they tell their kids about it, they are sharing a valid part of their lives. Abusers try to shield and isolate their victims to keep them under their thumb, and that's what anti-gay parents are doing to their kids when their kids see gay role models. They're getting upset that the manipulative little bubble they abusively pushed on them is being popped, that their possibly gay child may leave their control, hate them for what they've done to them mentally, and never speak to them again in their lives.

People take issue with dumb things all the time. On a mass scale it's usually on purpose. It's up to you to tell who is the real wolf in the sheep. Unfortunately a lot of the people we trust end up being beneath you the second you stop listening to them despite all their posture and bravado.

It absolutely is an issue. It's been a very long time since I've been in school, but I can honestly say I knew virtually nothing about my teachers personal lives, and that's how it should be.
I don't really get how people lost sight of the fact that when it comes to sex, kids will usually figure it out just fine on their own. There's a bit of trial and error, and often a good dose of embarrassing moments, but nature tends to take care of that quite well. Hell, the last thing I would have wanted as a kid was for some adult to want to sit down and talk about sex with me.

since gender and sexuality are very personal subjects it is not ill considered to leave those feelings to the person feeling them and only discussing them privately or generally in public inregards to the concept that anything guided by love is worth existing
