Ive done the fry station and worked the front register

the register is better imo you have to talk to people but theres not as much pressure to be lightning quick

i also know how to do the shakes, ice cream cones, and basic coffee. Lots of people order coffee even in the afternoon. I also know how to use their tea brewer now.

I dont think Im gonna tell them that Im gonna be living out of my car soon I am gonna try to keep that part of my life separate from the job.

I want some free fries

And a chicken nuggy

right now my main concern is making a cone that wont fall over so everyone gets a good 3.5 swirls or so

Grill was always my favorite station, I hated dealing with the customers.

Did they teach you how to put ketchup on a burger? Because theres an art form to it that seems to have escaped this present wave of workers, why the fuck do I have ketchup on my hands from eating a cheeseburger?

I did a few days at McDonald's over the years cause I worked at the radio station ans they'd have local "celebrities" in on mchappy day and it was hard as shit one of those times.

That said I told them I never worked a cash register before and I got no help or training and they stick me on the drive thru cash register so... wtf?

Other places were like go socialize or pour drinks or something while employees do the work... but that one time at mcds they just were all go work the register. It was fucked and awful.

Tbf except that one time they put me handing put food on the second window which is fine.

Sorry you're forced to live in your vehicle man. I hope you stay safe.

Now matter how tempting it is to open up and vent about your living situation, don't do it in your work place. Corporate/franchise jobs will hold that heavily over your head. Don't even tell coworkers if you get friendly with a couple of them.

I did 4 years at McDonald's. The ice cream cone was an art. It was about jamming the ice cream down with the swirls coming off the cone. I eventually became an assistant manager and our ice cream yields were terrible. The owner of my franchise was cool with it though because a shit ton of customers came to our McDonald's just for the badass 1 lb cones.

1.5 times the rent? Its three times the rent here and the going rate is about $2,400/month (which absolutely fucking skyrocketed over the past decade).

So I dont think I know a single young person who is renting without help from their parents (even if the help is just using their financial stuff to prove that someone can actually afford it).

This is flat out racist (Im a white guy, but I see whats going on). My city has basically turned 100% white, so theres my proof.

I know its stressful browsing these sites, but if you check zillow, Trulia, rentcafe, and Craigslist then you might find somebody trying to rent one room in a lease thats already signed. You would have to live with strangers, but sometimes that works out great

we are allowed just a shift meal on our lunch break. technically the rule is that we can order a sandwich a small fry and a small drink but it seems like you can have whatever as long as it isnt a double quarter pounder or nuggets

no Im lucky to have this car even I dont have the money to really do anything

I used to work at one years ago. I used to take a 15 min break but get a free meal and I'd always make everything hot and fresh.
Also used to do all kinds of goofball shit when I worked there.

i should've worded it differently oops. it's 1,500$ mininum for a 1 bedroom apartment.

Everyone makes it out to be the worst possible time in existence but it's really not

When you say living out of your car, do you mean literally sleeping in it?

It's no fun being in a car, and while a Van can be terrible sometimes, it's 10,000% better than a car.
If you literally only sleep in a car it will start to effect your job, sure the Van might eventually, but a car will being almost immediately. Trust me, it doesn't take long for someone to notice you living in a car, but a Van? Years, if not decades.

For me it was mostly the power tripping type managers, which is inescapable in fast food or retail. Customers are easy, the grouchier the more entertainment.

They only say that cause either they are too lazy or they are currently cleaning it as a customer will be less mad about that. They will get mad about it being cleaned wondering why that isn't done after closing. Idk about Mcdonald but iirc the one we had at BK would just shut down if it needed to be cleaned and wouldn't start back up until it was.

that was my first job and was there 2 years but pretty much always back in grill. people would always grab a nugget when they walked by. plus i used to make my own sandwich creations which was pretty cool. this 1 girl i worked with always asked me to make her a grilled cheese.

i know you haven't worked grill yet but have you seen how the burgers are made? i know they changed it at some now. is it just frozen patty with onions on top of it and then pressed in the grill? i did notice last time i went the mcdoubles tasted different.

once you're able to save up some money you should look into renting a cheap motel room. a lot and even hotels will let people rent a room weekly/monthly and maybe even yearly. i've known people that lived in them although i figured it would have been cheaper to just rent a 1 bedroom apartment. but maybe you can get a dirt cheap motel.

what do you do for bathing? rest stop around you on the freeway? do they have public showers? been years since i been to one but i wanna say i seen some with showers. planet fitness for $10 a month is another good option for a cheap place to shower.

any friends or family around? maybe you could give them like $500 a month if they have an extra room or a basement you could stay in.

I remember working fast food. It is pretty hectic, but it was awesome chatting with co-workers during down time.

I got yelled at once for talking while I was working. Like we where working right next to each other and getting our shit done so I didn't see the problem. But it was a case of a manager that was racist towards whites cause she never said shit to the black employees

They just give the handle a squeeze, and the condiment comes out of a bunch of tiny holes in the size slightly smaller than that of a patty for easy prep.

And 3.5 swirls for ice cream is generous. We were told 2.5, which when you see it, is hella stingy. But yeah, as long as the customer wasnt a total asshole, I would give them a nice sized cone.

But if theres one thing I hated, it was the if you finished your tasks, look for something else to do mentality. All that does is encourage workers to work slower so they can do the bare minimum amount of work. Now at my current job, if Im done with my stuff, I can do whatever. Im playing games on my phone and watching YouTube for a good 5-6 hours a day lol

Yea tc theres plenty of ppl living in motels or hotels. Talk to the owners or workers and u could prolly get a deal
