There's an FMA:B movie called The Sacred Star of Milos that's also worth a watch.

The original series is great too, even if it tells a wildly different story, and it caps off with a movie called Conqueror of Shamballa.

The 2nd time it was with like 3 other peeps (one of them wasn't into anime). Was the only anime that the non-anime enjoyer liked

I think it might have more mass appeal than other animes. Why is this?

Have they tried watching non-Shounen? Shounen tends to be the most popular, so sometimes some people say they don't like anime, but they assume most anime is like Shounen stuff.

In terms of mass appeal, I think SPY x FAMILY has some crazy viewer numbers in Asia/Japan.

Yeah, but it's still a strong anime in its own way. And it's interesting how they differ in portraying certain events, an argument can be made for both portrayals.

I honestly liked the original (2003) better, specifically the darker tone and I thought the art style was more unique.

I understand that Brotherhood is good and the technically superior version, but it felt more like your run of the mill anime to me.

My opinion would probably be different if I watched Brotherhood first but eh it is what it is.

The "issue" with starting Brotherhood first (it's still fine if you did) is that the show already assumes you watched the original, so it introduces a ton of the main cast in the first episode and blitzes through the parts of the story covered by the 2003 anime. I would say overall Brotherhood is better (sans the OST, which I prefer the 2003 anime for) but I don't see how anyone would argue that 2003 doesn't cover the initial arcs better. And technically all you would need to watch from the 2003 anime is like some of the first 12 episodes IIRC (I say some because they did throw in some early filler for world-building purposes). It's not a big issue, but it's definitely noticeable if you're familiar the series before Brotherhood.

I like the original too, and I even prefer a few things from it (Greed & Hughes getting more screen time/development, and the fight between Ed & Mustang). But the story started veering into some really weird territory towards the end, and it just didn't feel like the same series anymore.

Brotherhood is A1 from start to finish though, with upgraded art & animation to boot!!

A lot of people who watch anime, apparently. I'd put it up there someplace in terms of the quality of its execution, though I admit it's not actually in the running as my favorite series. I do love it, though. Mostly because Mustang is one of the best characters ever.

One piece anime has waaaaaaaay too much filler and godawful pacing though.

Its one of the longest Manga in history medicore filler and drawing things out really isn't acceptable just take damn breaks between seasons to not catch up holy shit its became quite normal to do breaks and cours now. Its already a formidable time investment without that.

MAL can get very protective of FMA:B, the fans will downvote any series that overtakes it.

Do you guys actually care about series ratings on that or any other site?
