life doesn't have an inherent meaning, but that doesn't mean you can't find or give it one

There is definitely normal shit everyone is expected to do, and I view that negatively. I imagine if life had some meaning the normal shit would be less important, but you can't do much in life without having done the normal shit first anyway.

I mean, the first is just you deciding to believe that. But I do agree that it has a chance of being completely reliant on the second thing you said.

People somehow convince themselves they're smart for being pessimistic lol. But really, you're not if you think you can grasp anything outside of what we're currently experiencing as humans. Even if it's more realistic than religion being realy, you're limiting yourself to only 2 outcomes by believing it's either God or nothing. That's very limiting. And it only benefits religion to make you believe that's the only alternative as well. So, by pushing your "either/or" perspective, you're helping religion prosper. If you're open to more possibilities, religion isn't the only place for someone who doesn't wanna believe in eternal darkness has to go

Not if you view that as a positive thing. Life doesnt have a set meaning so live it as you want

My life would have meaning if I had an attractive wife.

In that case I'll go positive. I think finding your own meaning is part of the meaning of life. And thats cool.

Nobody has brought up religion except you.

It's definitely not and either/or. But I don't choose to believe in anything without evidence. I'm open to the possibility of anything being true as long as you can back it up.

For now, I will stick with what science has shown to be true. When new evidence is found, I will reassess what I know/think.

Anyway, I think the idea of life having no meaning besides what we ourselves give it is a positive. It freeing.

Yeah. It's expanding a conversation to further understand someone's perspective through their responses. It's not like if he said "It's not about religion for me", Id be like "No bro, it totally is. I got you!" Lol. I'd hear him out and then let him lead the conversation to wherever he takes it.

I see it as a positive. Because then it has the kind of meaning each individual wants it to have. Isn't that a beautiful thing?
