I've already seen The Sting, Chinatown, The Holy Mountain (unfortunately), The Great Escape, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the old Murder on the Orient Express, but I want to see some more. I've somehow seen more movies from the 40's and 50's than the 60's and 70's.

The Airport movies
Honest opinion time.

The first one suuuuuuucks. It has barely any thrills and injects comedy where it does not work at all. It's basically an overlong and boring daytime soap opera set on an airport.

The second movie is like Airplane... if it was done as a straight up non-comedy. Bad specfial effects, bad acting, bad plot, bad characters. Avoid unless you want to learn what Airplane was spoofing.

The third movie is the opposite of the second in that it is surprisingly good, and the only one in the series that can be taken seriously.

The fourth movie is so bad it's good.

Bullitt
American Graffiti
The Italian Job
Gone in 60 seconds
Vanishing Point
The Getaway
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry

All good movies for car guys. The chase scene in Bullitt is still arguably one of the best action scenes in Hollywood history in my opinion.

Easy Rider
Le Samourai
The Mack
Once Upon a Time in the West

also: The Man With no Name trilogy, Dirty Harry series, & Death Wish.

if you're willing to go as far as 81, then American Pop. but tbh, Ralph Bakshi's other animated movies (which were mostly made in the 70s) are also worth checking out.

The French Connection and the spinoff The Seven-Ups.

In the The Seven-Ups a stunt driver was presumed killed when stunt went wrong.

The look on Scheider's face wasn't acting.

He was still distraught from thinking a stunt guy just got killed.

Best movie of the the 60s IMO.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is also amazing, and really anything Sergio Leone is worth watching at least once.
I think pretty much all of the Bond movies from the 60s were good.
Hitchcock had Psycho, The Birds. North by Northwest is amazing but 1959.
Kubrick was probably at his peak in the 60s.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is great.

60s and 70s was a pretty good era for star driven movies. Find someone you like. Newman, Eastwood, John Wayne, Charles Bronson, etc. and just explore their filmography.

Don't have cable.

Watch a channel called GRIT.

One would be suprised on the actors playing roles on these old shows.
