Kids cry on flights. Sometimes there's nothing you can do about it

Sure there is. Strap them on the wings and use their screams to power the jets.

I'm not even talking about the most extreme cases. I just simply do not like kids period. I can't stand hearing them even in passing. That is why I stay at home. I am also 37 and would like to enjoy myself. I'm in control of my own environment. And that is simply not something I want to see nor hear.

What age range are we talking?

And I can only speak for myself but I don't see how you can "enjoy" locking yourself away. Especially at 37. Do you at least acknowledge that even though you might not personally have an issue with it... it is a problem?

To be honest, I take issue with most all age ranges, now that you mention it. Working retail has caused me to hate everyone and not want to be around people in general.

Are you happy because you don't come across as being happy? Do you ever worry you will get to be old age and realize you've wasted your entire life and will be lonely? There is a vast world out there with amazing things to experience and you won't dare leave your house because of fear? I feel sorry for you that you can't see what you are missing out on.

I sympathize with the man.

Don't bring your kids out in public. It's not fair to the rest of us to have us suffer for the mistake you made.

This is why I generally stay at home. I can't stand kids and I can't control selfish parent into not taking their kids out and exposing me to that. Only thing I can control is myself and so I stay out of it. I try to have going out be as minimal as possible. I even order my groceries online. I absolutely despise kids.
So parents should never bring their kids out in public? Yeah, that's just stupid and not feasible at all.

Maybe everyone despises you for having a shitty opinion.

The parents told us to shut up and said their child is allowed to express himself after we politely asked them to quiet him down.

And every other person on that flight then has the right to "express" to those parents exactly how they feel about their kid and their parental abilities.

If they don't want others to express themselves, then they'd best do something about their kid's crying.

---

As for what can be done about it?

The parent can get a bottle of milk and add some wine to it, which will help the kid fall asleep.

Additionally, until the kid does calm down, one of the parents takes the kid to the airplane bathroom and holds it.

And sometimes, you will get an understanding flight attendant... who might let you use the crew rest compartment if no one is in it at the time.

TBF, people can be traumatized by a non-stop crying baby. Even the parents of the baby. I've seen a parent literally breakdown crying herself because she could not get her kid to stop crying. It was awful.

Yes. Letting your kid cry nonstop like this is not only rude af to the people around you, it's often a sign of parental negligence.

Yes it sucks there's a crying baby on a plane, but I doubt the parents weren't doing anything to try to calm down their kid.

They almost never are trying to do anything about it, and believe me, whenever there is a crying baby nearby on a plane, I'm looking.

That's what a pacifier or teething biscuit is for. To make the kid chew, which exercises the jaw muscles and eventually gets the ear to pop.

Kids cry for a reason, because it's exhausting to cry.

It's up to the parents to figure out why and alleviate the problem.

Here's a few reasons why kids cry:

  1. They are hungry/thirsty... so feed/water (LOL) them.
  2. They have a full diaper... so change it.
  3. They are tired... so sing them to sleep.
  4. They are bored... so get them some entertainment or play with them.
  5. They want Mommy or Daddy's reassurance... so hold them.
  6. They are in pain... so alleviate it.

Yep.

It's true that the parents are not always gonna be able to fix everything. But all too often in these cases of screaming babies on a plane, the parents are just sitting there not doing jack shit to even try to help. I would say they're probably just secretly praying nobody else minds, but I sincerely doubt most of them even care that much about what strangers think of them if they are content to just leave their own baby there screaming and hollering.

The only bad flight web had with our kid was when he was sick and actually threw up on a dude and had foul smelling diarrea right after. I was figuratively shitting my pants too but then he eventually calmed down. It is my appreciation that "plane tantrums" happen mostly with parents who don't know how to properly handle tantrums or their tools are more aggressive and know they can't pull that shit in public.
