Like VII is a complex story but you can pitch it in a elevator. And X is a pretty simple story. Under the layers.

Someone is transported back in time and has to stop an evil poster, and the church knows more than they are telling.

Now compare that with 12 . Am some rich people doing rich people shit and you are watching on the side with not even being the main character in your party.

You can boil down any FF plot to its bare elements while ignoring other elements just like you did with VII and X.

"A party consisting of a princess, pirates and a disgraced military vet has to stop an imperial power looking to use weapons of mass destruction"

There ya go, that's the basic plotline for FFXII.

An evil poster?

I don't think 12's plot is advanced brain-level as you're making out. It's basically Star Wars until the watchers behind the scenes are introduced. Vaan is Luke, while the empire and rebel alliance fights. It's just worse written, doesn't advance to the point where Vaan becomes a true soldier of the alliance, and that sort of insert character probably doesn't work as well in video games.

Now 13's story is a fucking mess.

I tried to get into XII... It was so boring to me, both gameplay and story. And an RPG's gotta have at least one of those going for it.

For me the gameplay was brilliant. My only gripe was that you had to unlock Gambits as you went along.

XII had soooo much potential, but the story was undercooked and played a second fiddle role. Had it been better and the character more fleshed out it wouldve universally praised cause people care more about this than gameplay in FF games.

Has no one brought up 15 yet?

13's story was super easy to follow. People just can't handle "fal'cie" and "l'cie."

The FF games after 10 tried to be alot more complicated then they really were. With loads of meaningless lore and jargon that added nothing.

12s story is just about a overthrown princess trying to reclaim her thrown. It's kind of confusing because the MC(kinda) along with much of the party aren't directly tied to any of it.

13, and esepcially 15 were horrible in these regards.

CEman: "You couldn't pitch FF XII in an elevator."

Squeenix pitchman: "Get this: it's basically Star Wars: A New Hope set in Ivalice. Actually it's exactly that."
Squeenix exec: "Beautiful, run with it."

I'd argue that Tidus wasn't the main character in 10 either, it was Yuna. Tidus was just the audience surrogate so the rest of the party had an excuse to explain to the player about Yevon, summoners, and the world in general.

8 was nonsense too lol. X has a lot of nonsense too regarding fayth and Zanarkand

10 and 14 both have good stories.

Idk, he seems kinda central to the plot as well, if only for his connection to Jecht and getting the party to question Yevon. And also what he is is also a big plot point.

I have heard that, but I think they are more duel protag. If Tidus wasn't there. She would just have gone a normal journey. Tidus made the journey the special one we know. But without her there is no Journey. So I think they play off of each other . Like Finn and Rey in TFA .

FFX was FFs best story.

I dislike every other FFs story including VII

That game feels like a 14 year old tried to make edgy fan fiction of the original FF and make it cooler and more badass.

Its so stupid I can hardly believe it was made in our universe, like it fell through a wormhole from another Earth into ours.

Stranger of Paradise's story is unironically good. It feeling like a mid-2000s shitpost at times is part of what made it work.
