yup

they could charge people by weight instead since thats the important factor in whether the plane takes off or not. But I feel like people would be even less happy with that

they just average out the weight because its far easier that way. like over a certain amount of passengers and the laws of statistics show that in almost every flight it will be within a certain weight range (usually a very specific number not a wide range).

And yet I'm not seeing you calling out underweight people or how the fashion industry digitally edits people to have unobtainable body ratios. Like 1 in 10 million might have the figure of some of those super models who are thin yet still have pronounced hips or whatever.

It's a harsh reality that us bigger folk have to deal with. I personally wouldn't expect a free seat since there's only so much space on a plane.

Still, the shit bigger people get goes way too far almost every time we are brought up. Some act like we're almost inhuman and that we deserve every bit of ridicule we get.

If someone wants to buy an extra seat, sure. But a whole lot of people - including the airline - are going to have a problem with giving someone an "extra seat".

Maybe have the back two rows be wide seats, charge price and a half for each or something along those lines. But no, an additional seat for free because you are obese shoudn't be an option.

It's the difference between charging per person and per seat. Airlines sell seats.

Her argument would also mean that someone who can eat five Big Macs shouldn't have to pay more than someone who can eat one Big Mac. The logic isn't sound

Sure we don't need to body shame people, but this new age body positivity goes a bit too far acting like being overweight is healthy and the world should accommodate that.

The airlines can do whatever it wants, but I highly doubt it's doing to accommodate something that isn't profitable to accommodate.

I'm 6'3" and I demand that airlines take out the seat in front of me so I'm more comfortable

The body fattening movement is endemic to America, have you been to Europe? Everything there is tiny and miserable. Rooms are tiny, cars are tiny, parking space is tiny, its so unbearable and not friendly at all. Most places aren't even scooter wheelchair accessible. I can't even imagine what asia is like

I consider the fact that the majority of this nation is overweight, how many already don't fly because they don't think they can fit in a seat? This would open up more options for more people, I don't disagree with you at all, but people aren't going to address their weight problems head on, that's become apparent. what part of my statement lead you to believe I was excluding underweight people? obviously being underweight is bad. that means that "health at every size" is even less correct

If buying two seats on a plane because she can't comfortably fit into one is "humiliating," perhaps she should consider an alternative means of travel. I've heard Amtraks are pretty spacious.

I think everyone should get a free seat and fat people should have to pay for any extras they take up.

Nah, people just need to stop embracing being overweight as something to be prideful about and thinking the world needs to bend over to accommodate that.

The airlines are not struggling enough to care about accommodating overweight people so they'll be fine. If overweight people want two seats, pay for it. Maybe that can be a wake up call to start changing their diet.

I'm all for not shaming them, but the body positivity movement has gotten a tad too far in embracing an unhealthy body and lifestyle. Our culture embraces being overweight as nothing you can do about it, and it needs to stop for these peoples health.

Well you gotta pay for extra seats. Whether that be because you're traveling with a kid, a small pet, or you're taking up two on your own, those are the rules. And I don't think that they're deliberately trying to humiliate passengers.

Yeah, I think that's something she's got going on.

It's also not fair that another person may lose their seat on a packed plane just because one person needs to take up two due to being morbidly obese. I see she didn't think of those she may be inconveniencing.. There are also other travel options if one is not going out of the country such as driving, bus, and train.
