Rental Starmie, Gengar, and Alakazam is decent from what I remember

no special attack/defence. it was all one stat, so pokemon like alakazam and mewtwo were fucking broken.

No, i forgot they didn't fix it with stadium 1. They did with 2, which i played the most of.

I also forgot that nicknaming some pokemon changes their colour.

they literally could have just release one of those cheat versions that unlock everything..

Charizard handles them pretty well, has the special to tank their hits and a strong enough attack to take advantage of their inferior defense

charizard has base 85 special, thats pretty low. the other fire/flying type moltres, for comparison, has 125. alakazam has 135 and mewtwo has fucking 154. one thunder wave (and they were everywhere in RBY) and charizard is boned

also what, inferior defense? every single one of mewtwo's stats is significantly higher

I'm talking mostly for the Sabrina fight in gen 1 that everyone hates. Also I was saying their inferior defense compared to their own special, you are much better off using a regular attack against Alakazam (or psychic types in general) than a special attack. The problem is that most attackers in gen 1 don't have the special to take Sabrina's Alakazam's hits.

Sure, but Charizard in particular is not noteworthy in that aspect. You'd be better off paralyzing/sleeping with a tankier Pokemon and switching in, rather than praying you can both outspeed and quickly kill a 120 speed 135 special mon with generally unresisted STABs. All while Charizard can't STAB Alakazam back, because there are no physical fire moves in gen one (and the only flying move he has access to is Fly, which is lol)
