How much milk did mfs drink back then? The stuff back then expired super quick so they had to be drinking it like water for it to be worth the service.

It takes weeks for a gallon of milk to either finish or end up expired in my house. I mostly use it for cooking but my fiance drinks the stuff.

The dairy industry in the United States is crazy.

People had more kids back then I guess.

People did more cooking back then I assume.

Back then, people thought milk was the healthiest drink in the world, largely because of successful ad campaigns. So they drank it every morning and usually at night, too.

I go through a half gallon every 2-3 days, 4 max.

Less variety in available drinks, and more cooking, and more kids. Is my guess

I think it was that it can have a effect but a lesser one then advertised and thag there was little evidence it decreased risk of serious bone injury.

Tbh its probbaly good for people because most people get shit amounts of vitamim D and potassium and its got a decent bit of those.

So, some people got more or less based on how much milk they were getting So, it you only used certain amount daily, youd only get that amount But the reason the milkman would bring milk was because people were in more urban areas m, but still wanted milk. They delivered daily since refrigeration was still new and not common. And milk was spoil fast So, daily delivery According to some article Google showed me Gave a little milk history or whatever

I think Milk bottles were more like a pint or a quart. You weren't getting a whole gallon delivered daily.

They used it in place of refrigerators. Given that the refrigerator wasn't invented. The ice was used to keep food fresh. Of course, the Amish in PA dug a big hole in the ground under a big shed for a similar reason.

Whats so shocking about it? A bottle of milk wasnt that much and families were bigger back in the day.

I go through 3L of milk regularly, and I only use it for coffee and rarely cereal

Hell my grandma got hers from a actual farmer.

Two big jars a week.

One she'd churn and make butter and butter milk.

My hometown actually had paper boxes.

They didn't just toss it into the yard or driveway.

Also had reflective stickers for those who just got Sunday and Wednesday papers.

Done away with them by the late 90s though.

I see everyone here has failed to realize that back then when daily milk deliveries were common one of the main reasons people got it daily was because Ice Boxes and refridgerators (fridges) weren't common back then so they needed it daily.

If you have ever left milk out in the open you know how fast it can go off.

Plus lots of people didn't have any way to get to the grocery store everyday to buy milk so the mmilkman was essential to them.

I'll never understand why some people say cow's milk is a weird thing to drink as they savor a cooked piece of cow ass.

Moms stayed at home and wanted a strong man to deliver white liquid to them on the daily

We have two kids and a 1 l carton of milk per day is quite plausible

Did you know that raw milk (unpasteurized milk) is banned in Scotland where I live.

In what way? For example, in a few US states you can absolutely keep and drink raw milk, but you cannot sell it unless it is sold in-state as animal feed.

When I was in elementary school we had a field trip to a farm. After a tour through pisghit and chickenshit, they walked us through cowshit to milk a cow.

The udder was legit one of the most unpleasant things I've ever touched. Imagine squeezing a warmed Nerf (American) football from top to bottom until a liquid sprayed out. It was the kind of warm like if you put your hand down the front of your pants on a hot day.

That's what it felt like.

Tbf, they might. But usually, the babies are drinking from a lactating mother. Some animals have different breeding seasons, so animals might not be able to drink from many other species. Also, animals are sometimes scared of other animals, so it could be hard for another animal to start feeding on a lactating mother Maybe thats why Especially an adult Maybe they would try if they could, though Maybe theyd like it

Back then, they didn't have refrigerators.
