Hated invasions. Unbalanced. It ain't fair when some 100 level whatever invades you perpetually and always kills you dead.

The cap on invasions was like 10 levels lower than you.

I think you could invade anyone higher than you though. Also people dont pick who they invade. You probably just ran into people alot better than you or just really good gear.

I think the most you could do was keep soul level low and have +10 gear.

But no. Soulsborne is some precious golden calf that needs special protection or something.

its not, if you get killed it would hollow you or unember you. Then you couldnt be invaded.

The worst thing though was in Bloodborne when i'd be available to help and get summoned into someones game and they'd be a different faction. If i was in the mood id just kill em instead of helping lol

And again, this is an argument that only EVER gets applied to soulsborne games.

We don't go "well just don't play the game then! No need to change it to cater to you!" when someone criticizes Pikemon games for cutting content. Or when people say they'd prefer Final Fantasy to go back to an ATB system over Action RPG mechanics. Or when people say BotW would have been better with more traditional dungeons, or without breakable weapons. PLENTY of developers make "artistic" choices that sizeable chunks of players think the game would be better without.

Fuck the entire REALM of movie critique is based on deciding if artistic choices were good or bad, or whether it would be better with or without them. Hell, it's basically the sole determining factor in whether it ends up received as "good" or not.

Souls is straight up the ONLY franchise I've seen where every single facet of its design is somehow above criticism.

it's definitely more of an uphill battle but i feel like since i have things like endure and bhs i don't have any excuses. also, a frigging cannon. also, the teleport item.

you have a lot of access to surprise damage in elden ring. everyone does. and if you're willing to swap talismans in and out you suddenly have a lot more room to play with; you get tools that help you keep your resources while a host and his buddies are spending theirs.

eh, there's some formula. in original dark souls you could invade infinitely upward, and it was awesome.

except its not and its gets criticized all the time.

People constantly criticize level design, enemies, bosses, weapon mechanics, hit boxes, magic, the way it tells the story, and more

The only people that complain about easy mode are people who dont play the game. You're just screaming at clouds about this issue.

It was mostly journalists who spend an hour or two on the game. Cant get past the tutorial boss and say "it needs an easy mode"

Exactly. I can put up with it if the game itself kills me, but when they let someone INVADE your fucking game only to beat you down in two seconds...I say it ain't fair.

it's not meant to be, or at least, it wasn't meant to be.

in dark souls 1 the infinite-use invasion item was locked behind a pretty notable knowledge gate -- you can get it before you do much of anything else if you know how. but you have to beat one of the harder bosses in the game first. this meant it basically positioned you to invade players that wouldn't have the same kind of experience or skill.

it's a lot more fair in elden ring because you can't invade solo players unless they actually go out of their way and drag you in. that said, it doesn't help much against someone who has been dealing with ganks for as long as i have.

Nothing gets me more hot and bothered than attacking people who want a souls easy mode or pause button
