I had the same metalhead reaction to BABYMETAL the first time I heard them. Little girls who don't play instruments caterwauling.. Years later, BABYMETAL came up in my youtube suggestions. I thought...ok, Ill try it for real, and gave them an honest listen.

I was hooked. Their drummer is amazing. Bought all 3 albums. Kicked myself for judging them too quickly. It helps of you listen to songs other than Gimme Chocolate.

As for the gatekeeping. Its true. People see or hear the name, and begin rattling off the reasons why only their opinion matters. Like it or not, they are a true metal/hard rock band. A lot of metalheads forget that metal was all about breaking rules...even its own.

They do not play concerts with. backing tracks.

I will be there Sep 8 in Pitt.

If you like BABYMETAL, give BAND-MAID a try.

As of 2023, they use backing tracks for guitar, bass, drum, key, and vocal parts. I'm not saying that's not okay, just dont say that they dont. It's not that kind of band.

Literally 4 months into this year. What about from 2010? How is it not that kind of band if they've been playing live with the kami band since they've been formed? >_>

Also this is not true. You can literally see the Kami band live in this footage. This is with Momo-metal, who has just joined them this month.

YOU PROBABLY DONT WANT TO DWELL ON WHEN THEY USED TO 100% MIME 100% OF VOCAL PARTS AND EVERY GUITAR PART WAS A TRACK, SO I WONT EITHER. WE'RE GONNA STICK TO THE BAND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT, 2023 BABYMETAL.

Miming is no big deal, but being delusional about it is. You're not gonna sit here and tell me this is news to you about a band that was formed as an "idol group" that hadn't so much as listened to hard rock before being hired and marketed as a heavy metal band.

I think you need to calm down dude. Its just a band. Even if its marketed as a heavy metal band, it's not going to hurt you or your bands you like.

I thought at the beginning you were being rational, but I see now you're just being spiteful.

Edit: Also claiming that they're just another group and no one is talking down to them for not being a metal band, whilst calling them prancy and claiming they dance and sing to pre-recorded tracks as if that's all they do. Geez man, if you don't like them just come out and say it. I'd respect you more for it.

All caps for no reason, very normal behavior.

It's pretty well known that when they started they didn't have the Kami band and just danced to backing tracks. But they've had a live band in every show for over a decade, and Su absolutely kills it live, she's not miming. Moa/Yui/Momo definitely still use some level of tracks for their vocals but they're also going full steam dancing the whole time.

You can see them miming, yes. This is all documented, discussed by the band themselves, and recorded all over youtube. This is how idol groups, which Babymetal is, perform.

I'm not gonna drill anything in, you are free to make your mind up anyway you like. If miming is that big a dealbreaker for you, I dont know what to say about the band.

Well how about you show me instead of blowing up at me like that? I literally never insulted you, but you called me delusional. Do you usually talk to people like this?

Edit: I don't think theres ever been an instant of Kami band ever miming their instruments on stage live. The only time there has been "miming" is when Babymetal has played through pre-recorded tracks sometimes (Which isn't uncommon with live performances) and is needed for the choreography. A majority of their live performances are actually NOT mimed except for the backing vocals. Especially nowadays.

Back when they had the Babybones band (the dudes in skeletal suits) those guys were miming to the backing tracks which might be what he's griping about, but yeah ever since the Kami band came in, which was pretty early on, they haven't really been miming outside of Moa/Yui/Momo when they're dancing.

Has Mastodon been able to get their vocals better? The bass player easily has the best vocals on the band but hasn't taken care of himself/his voice for years.

I'm in no danger of the groups I'd see booking with Babymetal, and if it happened, I'm sure it'd be a fun time. Dont be a drama queen.

Edit: Also claiming that they're just another group and no one is talking down to them for not being a metal band, whilst calling them prancy and claiming they dance and sing to pre-recorded tracks as if that's all they do. Geez man, if you don't like them just come out and say it. I'd respect you more for it.

I never claimed any of that. I clarified that it's not a naked performance. Being a more performance based group is fine, and certainly nothing new to hard rock and metal, so theres no reason to get hung up over it. As far as the prancy comment, well.....they're prancy, and if that is offensive to some sense of masculinity being placed upon Babymetal then that's for you to sort out. Mick Jagger made a living on it. I stated it as a reason metalheads probably tune out.

Murphiroth posted...

The all caps was intended to express annoyance. I think that is pretty clear, and dont know how else you can take that, but if I didnt communicate I didnt communicate. Not sure whats abnormal there, though.

And thats great to hear about the instrumentals. Obviously you're not going to put on that level of dance performance without serious sacrifices to singing quality or taking a 20 minute break mid show, which always seems to go poorly when other groups have done so. It comes with the territory for this kind of performance. Not something that hits me one way or the other.
