I cant quote your original post for some reason, but the Bear fact you mentioned isnt fully true. While Big Bird (Caroll Spinney) and Bear (Noel MacNeal) did meet up during production of BBHs first season, no actual episode featured a guest appearance from Big Bird or any other Sesame Street or Muppet Show muppets. The closest they got was getting Dave Goelz (Gonzo) to perform an original character in the shows Christmas special.

Ah, good catch. I should've just gone with the darker piece of trivia I had lined up. How the show ended up being postponed and eventually canceled after the sudden death of the voice actor for Luna the moon.

Also not true. The show simply ended because it had ran for enough episodes. Lynne Thigpens passing coincidentally occurred a few months after production on season 4 (which brought the show to 117 episodes) had wrapped.

Commenting on today's match, I'm not really a fan of There's Something There. The staccato notes in the chorus don't work for me here, and Chip's bit at the end feels a bit foolish. Just me being a grump, I'm sure.

Day 10 Results:

Round 1, Division 3

(5) Something There (Beauty and the Beast) --VS -- (28) Cruela de Vil (101 Dalmations) - 8-12
Seemingly, Paige O'Hara, the voice of Belle, had trouble singing the "New and a bit alarming" part of the song Something There because it was rather high for her vocal range. So Alan Menken and Howard Ashman told her to sing it like Grammy-winner Barbra Streisand, and it obviously helped.

(12) Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid) --VS -- (21) Duel of the Fates (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace) - 10-10
We have our first tie of the contest. The winner will (hopefully) be decided with the next set of matches.

(13) The X-Files Main Theme --VS-- (20) Where You Are (Moana) -12-7
Trivia: For those unfamiliar, the Billboard 200 is a chart that ranks the most popular albums on a weekly basis based on various metrics. Moanas soundtrack peaked at #2 on the charts, just missing out on the top spot. In fact, only 5 animated film soundtracks from Disney have ever reached number #1 on the billboard 200 charts. Among them are the soundtracks for Frozen and Frozen 2, as well as The Lion King soundtrack. Can you guess the other two animated film soundtracks to reach #1 on the Billboard 200?

(4) In a World of My Own (Alice in Wonderland) --VS-- (29) True Love's Kiss (Enchanted) - 5-13
Originally, Alice was to sing a slow ballad entitled "Beyond the Laughing Sky", and it was a song about Alice dreaming of a new world, very much in the spirit of Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz. However, Kathryn Beaumont had difficulty singing, and it was decided that starting the film off with a slow ballad would be a little risky on audiences. The song "In a World of My Own" is livelier and was easier for Beaumont to sing.

I'll take a stab and guess Encanto. I did some research the other day and discovered that it topped a number of prominent music charts around the world. Not bad for a movie that was unceremoniously thrown onto streaming a month after its theatrical debut.

Id say Something There losing was the biggest surprise of the contest so far. Cruella has the new film and Stone did a great job in it, but I didnt think itd have that much gas.

Honestly X-Files winning might have been the second biggest surprise. Love Enya though, so easy vote for me.

As a huge fan of the beauty and the beast soundtrack, Something There was always that one exception for me. Maybe it's because I feel it borrows too much from the other songs, idk, it's just off-putting to me for some reason.

With that being said, your assessment might be correct. When this contest was run in 2021, beauty and the beast underperformed.

I'm unnaturally in love with Belle I think. But it makes me sad to see the decline.

And for bonus, the 3 mythics who voted ALL Beauty and the Beast songs: TomNook, PrinceKaro, Ngamer (<-maybe. hasn't voted in today's match yet).

Round 1, Division 3

(3) Virginia Company (Pocahontas) --VS -- (30) Everybody Wants to Be a Cat (The Aristocrats) - 9-10
You probably didnt notice, but when Governor Ratcliffe is boarding the ship during the song Virginia Company, the Rat (the main antagonist from Lady and the Tramp) can be seen boarding as well.

(14) Beauty and the Beast (Beauty and the Beast) --VS -- (19) The Simpsons Main Theme - 13-7
The opening sequence is one of the most notable hallmarks of The Simpsons. Each episode opening differs from episode to episode, usually with a different chalkboard gag, couch gag, saxophone solo, billboard gag (post Season 19), and more. Inspiration for the song itself apparently came from The Jetsons theme song.

(11) I'll Make a Man Out of You (Mulan) --VS-- (22) Dig a Little Deeper (The Princess and the Frog) - 16-3
A cover song of Dig a Little Deeper, performed by China Anne McClain, appears in the end credits and soundtrack of Descendants 3, a franchise that surprisingly did not get a single nomination in this tournament.

(6) Rappin' Drakken (Kim Possible) --VS-- (27) Shiny (Moana) - 4-14
The episode Rappin Drakken aired as part of Disney Channel's So Hot Summer Click It To Pick It Week. Fans could vote on Disney Channel's Website which new episode of Kim Possible would air next. The choices were between Rappin' Drakken and Team Impossible. Rappin' Drakken won and the winner was announced on TV by the stars of Go Figure.

**TIEBREAKER**

(12) Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid) --VS -- (21) Duel of the Fates (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace) - 10-10 (12-8)
Dave Filoni, executive producer at LucasFilms, spoke in detail on the meaning of the song title Duel of the Fates. The fight is a duel of the fates because its a fight for the fate of Anakin Skywalker. Filoni explains that Qui-Gon sees the failure of the Jedi well before the others do (as Yoda realizes it in Attack of the Clones), and knows that Jedi arent actually opposed to love. He knows that taking Anakin away from his mother is hard, and so Anakin needs a father figure Qui-Gon. So this fight is a fight over what will happen to this young boy, and in the end, Qui-Gon loses. And with it, Anakin loses the mentor and father figure that he needed, opening up his path to becoming Darth Vader. Obi-wan, in contrast, becomes more of an older brother figure to Anakin.

Round 1, Division 3

(7) I Won't Say I'm in Love (Hercules) --VS -- (26) Touch the Sky (Brave) - 16-3
Trivia: Released in 2012, Brave was only the second official Pixar movie to focus solely on a human cast. Can you guess the first movie?

(10) Hellfire (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) --VS -- (23) Arabian Nights (Aladdin) - 11-9
One can say that Arabians Nights is the unofficial theme song of the Aladdin trilogy, with different variations of the song carrying the same tune serving as the opener for Aladdin, The Return of Jafar, and King of Thieves.

(15) DuckTales Main Theme (1987) --VS-- (18) Circle of Life (The Lion King) - 7-14
In the DuckTales theme, the use of the British word for fixed-wing aircraft "aeroplanes" instead of the American "airplanes" is a bit of an oddity, considering that the show is American-produced, is set primarily in the United States, and that composer/lyricist Mueller and performer Pescetto are Americans.

(2) Part of Your World (The Little Mermaid) --VS-- (31) Moon Girl Magic (Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur) - 18-3
The title sequence for Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur was storyboarded by Ben Juwono who took inspiration from Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" music video.

Day 13 Results:

Round 1, Division 4

(1) X-Men the Animated Series Main Theme --VS -- (32) Aloha, E Komo Mai (Lilo & Stitch: The Series) - 16-2
One of the characters who debuted in Lilo & Stitch: The Series (Splodyhead) was given a cameo in Big Hero 6 as one of the pillows on Fred's bed. This makes Lilo & Stitch: The Series the first Disney sequel TV series to be referenced in a Disney Animated Canon film.

(16) Zero to Hero (Hercules) --VS -- (17) When Will My Life Begin? (Tangled) - 13-8
Youre telling me that between 7 AM and 7:15 AM, Rapunzel is able to sweep, polish and wax, do laundy, mop, and sweep again? Anyone else not buying this?

(9) Let it Go (Frozen) --VS-- (24) Pepper Ann Main Theme - 15-5
Like with The Simpsons theme, Pepper Ann has an under the desk gag at the end of the theme song that is different each episode.

(8) I Just Can't Wait to Be King (The Lion King) --VS-- (25) GlomTales - 2017 (DuckTales) - 17-3
The GlomTales theme song was part of a Disney Channel's "Theme Song Takeover" short series where Glomgold alters the theme song with mentions to him.

Day 14 Results:

Round 1, Division 4

(5) Strange Things (Toy Story) --VS -- (28) Star Wars Main Title (Star Wars) - 8-10
The Fool is one of the two deleted songs written for Toy Story that did not make it into the film. Considered too dark and sad, it was replaced by the happier-sounding Strange Things.

(12) What's This? (The Nightmare Before Christmas) --VS -- (21) Put a Spell on You (Hocus Pocus) - 13-5
The film Hocus Pocus was intended to be a Disney Channel original film, but when higher-ups saw the script they felt it was strong enough for a theatrical release with well-known actors. Oddly, it was shown in theaters in July instead of a time closer to Halloween, the reason being Disney was releasing The Nightmare Before Christmas in October and didn't want both films to compete. (Funnily enough, both films did end up competing with each other in this match.)

(13) The Bells of Notre Dame (Hunchback of Notre Dame) --VS-- (20) That's How You Know (Enchanted) - 13-4
Like the film, the songs in Enchanted were written as a homage to and a self-parody of past Disney works. Thats How You Know is more specifically a homage to Alan Menken and the rise of the Disney Renaissance music, with this song gathering inspiration from Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.

(4) He Mele No Lilo (Lilo & Stitch) --VS-- (29) Even for You (Avengers: Infinity War) - 15-2
For those unfamiliar, Even for You is the music that plays when Thanos chooses to sacrifice someone he loves in order to obtain the Soul Stone.

I watched a few more of the theme song takeovers after GlomTales, and the one with Dr Doofenshmirtz was easily my favourite.

To add to the Hocus Pocus trivia, the film flopped in theatres because people didn't want to watch a halloween film in the summer, but at least it found its audience on video.

Day 15 Results:

Round 1, Division 4

(3) Suite (X-Men 2) --VS -- (30) Boy Meets World Main Theme (Season 6-7) - 9-5
While most sitcoms are canceled due to low ratings, Boy Meets World was cut when its ratings were arguably the highest. ABC would have rather continued with it. However, Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) and Ben Savage (Cory Matthews) were accepted to Columbia and Stanford, respectively, and the cast had to "get on with their lives." The series finale drew a record 17.1 million to ABC during the hour-long block.

(14) I'm Still Here (Treasure Planet) --VS -- (19) It's Our House Now (Mickey's House of Villains) - 10-7
There have only been two instances where James Woods was NOT the voice of Hades. The first was in the song Its Our House Now, which was sung by Rob Paulsen. The second was in a cameo appearance in an episode of DuckTales, which was voiced by Chris Diamantopoulos. This movie also came out about a week before the North American release of the Kingdom Hearts video game. With both involving a coalition of Disney villains working together, its not surprising that a trailer for the Kingdom Hearts video game appears on the DVD of Mickeys House of Villains.

(11) Go the Distance (Hercules) --VS-- (22) On My Way (Brother Bear) - 11-4
In Brother Bear, "On My Way" is the only song to be sung even partially by a character (in this case, Koda). The song later appeared in a 2007 commercial for Coca-Cola.

(6) No Place We'd Rather Be (PB&J Otter) --VS-- (27) You'll Be in My Heart (Tarzan) - 1-14
One unique thing about PB&J Otter is that many of the characters in the show were actually voiced by real children, which may seem like common sense but its more of a rarity in the business than you might think. Five different characters had unique child voice actors.

Day 16 Results:

Round 1, Division 4

(7) How Far I'll Go (Moana) --VS -- (26) Perfect World (The Emperor's New Groove) - 11-4
Sting was originally set to sing Perfect World in the film, but the filmmakers opted to go with a more Las Vegas-y sound. Hence, Tom Jones replaced the vocals.

(10) Be Our Guest (Beauty and the Beast) --VS -- (23) Can You Feel the Love Tonight (The Lion King) - 6-10
Trivia: For those unfamiliar, the Billboard 100 is a chart that ranks the most popular songs on a weekly basis based on various metrics. Can You Feel the Love Tonight peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 100, the highest placement of any Lion King song on the charts. In fact, only two animated Disney movie songs have ever reached number 1 on the Billboard 100. The first time was in 1993 with A Whole New World from Aladdin. What was the second song to reach number 1?

(15) Worthless (The Brave Little Toaster) --VS-- (18) Kiss the Girl (The Little Mermaid) - 7-10
Considered, alongside Hellfire, as one of the darkest songs in all of Disney animation, Worthless forces us to contemplate our own mortality as the cars tell their life story before getting crushed by the Crusher -- many of them dealing with regrets and feelings of worthlessness. Its no surprise the song was almost cut from the film. The main reason, according to producer Donald Kushner, was that one of the cars (the pickup) was seemingly committing suicide by driving onto the conveyor belt that was moving towards the Crusher. Its a catchy tune though.

(2) We Don't Talk About Bruno (Encanto) --VS-- (31) The Caucus Race (Alice in Wonderland) - 16-0
Dolores drops several clues all throughout We Dont Talk About Bruno that she can hear Bruno still, hinting that he never left, but did you notice during Dolores' rapping verse in the song, Bruno can actually be seen walking on the second floor in the background and bopping his head to the beat of the music.

Also, congrats to We Dont Talk About Bruno for being the only song to get 100% of the votes in the first round.

Well, that's the end of Round 1. Round 2 will begin tomorrow afternoon, or I guess I should say this afternoon since its already past Midnight here.

In the meantime, here is a breakout on how each grouping did in Round 1:

animated movie songs: 49-27 (animated movie songs dominated. a vast majority of these losses are from head-to-head matchups with other animated movie songs.)
live-action movie songs: 4-8 (all of the live-action movie songs that survived are scores with no lyrics)
television theme songs: 5-12 (despite the beating taken in the first round, there is still a good variety of tv intros remaining)
television songs: 2-10 (the only two tv songs to move on are from the same show: Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure)
video game music: 3-5 (Kingdom Hearts goes 2-4 in Round 1)
theme park music: 0-2
shorts: 1-0

Across all genres, music scores went 9-12 overall in Round 1.

The Tangled franchise currently has the most representatives in Round 2 with five songs total.

Your other guess, We Don't Talk about Bruno, is correct. It held the number 1 spot for an impressive 5 consecutive weeks, making it the longest run at the number 1 spot for any Disney song, surpassing All for Love from the live-action film The Three Musketeers, which held the top spot for 3 consecutive weeks in 1994. I 2 I is a good song. Made it into the 2021 contest, but had a poor seed and a tough matchup.

There's a lot of good, deserving songs that missed out on this contest. I sort of have mixed feelings on how the nominations went. It started off with strong participation, then really fizzled out at the end. Was expecting a push at the end like last time, but it never came. The bracket would've looked a lot different had even just 5 or 6 additional people provided noms. With that being said, it worked out kind of nice for the people that did nom songs, because the low cut-off allowed a lot of niche songs into the tourney, providing some interesting variety which is what I was going for.

(12) Reflection (Mulan) --VS-- (28) Ready As I'll Ever Be (Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure) - 14-6
If Nickelodeon has Zuko, then Disney has Varian. Well, hes more like a reverse Zuko in that hes good turned bad. Varion is introduced in the show as a dorky but kindhearted alchemist, and aids Rapunzel on her various adventures. But after being wronged by the kingdom of Corona, resulting in the demise of his father, Varion turns his sorrow into vengeance and becomes the main antagonist of the first season. Funnily enough, the show repeats this good turned bad plot with another of its main characters in season 3. Dont watch this if you want to avoid spoilers, but I wanted to share another song from the show featuring that season 3 villain that didnt make the contest and is just frankly too good of a song to be hidden away in an obscure tv show:

(20) Poor Unfortunate Souls (The Little Mermaid) --VS-- (29) Winnie the Pooh (The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh) - 15-6
When the original song was written, Tigger did not appear in Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, hence his exclusion from the song. In the 2011 Winnie the Pooh film, Tigger was added in the lyric, "and Kanga, and little Roo (and Tigger too!)" However, this did not stop them from excluding Piglet, who also did not appear in Honey Tree. At the time the song was written, Piglet was originally intended to be replaced by Gopher, before the decision was made to have both of them live in tandem in the final version.

Day 18 Results:

Round 2, Division 1

(3) Sanctuary (Kingdom Hearts 2) --VS -- (19) Friends on the Other Side (Princess and the Frog) - 9-10
Sanctuary (Passion" in Japanese) is not only the theme song for Kingdom Hearts II but is also the theme song for Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and is used as the ending theme in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

(6) A Whole New World (Aladdin) --VS -- (22) Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers Main Theme - 16-5
Chip and Dale's outfits are based on those worn by Indiana Jones and Thomas Magnum, respectively. Incidentally, Tom Selleck was the original pick for Indiana Jones, but had to back out of the film, because of his commitment to Magnum, P.I.

(7) Surface Pressure (Encanto) --VS-- (10) Colors of the Wind (Pocahontas) - 12-9
The runner up of the 2021 contest makes an early exit this time around, failing to make it past Round 2. To commemorate the song, please enjoy this mellow male version of Colors of the Wind:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CU2A-HBaT8w

Dont click this spoilers box until you watch the video: That wasnt actually a male cover of the song, rather it was a pitch shift of Tori Kelly singing the song. Were you tricked by it?

(2) Gaston (Beauty and the Beast) --VS-- (15) Why Should I Worry? (Oliver and Company) - 12-8
Trivia: Released in 1988, Oliver and Company was the last animated Disney movie from the pre-Renaissance era. Incidentally, Why Should I Worry was the first song from an animated Disney movie to be nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Unfortunately, it did not win. Can you guess which animated Disney movie song would eventually become the first to win a Golden Globe for Best Original Song?

Nobody took a stab at the trivia so Ill go ahead and answer it. Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid was the first to win a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. It would begin a dominant stretch for Disney animated movie winners -- 5 total in the decade -- ending with Tarzans Youll Be in My Heart winning it in 1999. Amazingly, that would be the last time a Disney animated movie has won the Golden Globe in that category.

Day 19 Results:

Round 2, Division 2

(1) He's a Pirate (The Pirates of the Caribbean) --VS -- (17) Mother Knows Best (Tangled) - 12-8
Mother Knows Best is remarkably similar to "Stay in Here," the first half of "Out There" (The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which also has music written by Menken), as both seem as though the antagonist is trying to protect their hostage, who, coincidentally, both want to go to a festival/party. In both instances, the villain is secretly hiding their true heritage from the protagonist (Frollo killed Quasimodo's mother, Gothel wants Rapunzel to remain locked up because she needs her hair to stay alive).

(8) Simple and Clean (Kingdom Hearts) --VS -- (9) Darkwing Duck Main Theme - 12-9
There are five different versions of the Darkwing Duck intro sequence. The first one was aired on the Disney Channel when the show first premiered and featured alternate animation and a rock-based version of the theme song. The second, more familiar version of the song was used in syndication and was plastered over other versions of the theme song in later broadcasts of the show's reruns as well as on the video releases. The third is the version used on The Disney Afternoon and is the same as the second version only cut for time. The fourth and fifth introductions were used on the ABC Saturday Morning airings and contained mostly scenes from those episodes.

(5) The Moon (Duck Tales: Remastered) --VS-- (12) Lava (Lava) - 13-7
Lava, a short, was attached to the theatrical release of Inside Out in 2015.

(4) The Glory Days (The Incredibles) --VS-- (13) Friend Like Me (Aladdin) - 4-17
The Glory Days score also made an appearance in The Incredibles 2. In fact, the score was also covered by DCappella for the Incredibles 2 soundtrack. Most of the lines consist of scats and humming but only limited to a few words, consisting of the Parr family's names.

Day 20 Results:

Round 2, Division 2

(3) The Mandalorian Main Theme --VS -- (14) What Else Can I Do? (Encanto) - 5-13
The general premise of The Mandalorian is loosely inspired by the manga series Lone Wolf and Cub by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima. It was also the first major Star Wars production to not have the Star Wars name in its official title.

(6) Waiting in the Wings (Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure) --VS -- (11) God Help the Outcast (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) - 7-11
"Waiting in the Wings" won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song in a Childrens, Young Adult or Animated Program in July of 2020. This completed Alan Menken's EGOT set, which is the rare achievement of having won all four of the major American entertainment awards (i.e. an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony) . Only 18 people have ever been able to achieve this feat.

(7) This is Halloween (The Nightmare Before Christmas) --VS-- (23) The Mob Song (Beauty and the Beast) - 12-7
In The Mob Song, An allusion to Shakespeare's Macbeth is made by Gaston borrowing a quote from Lady Macbeth, one of the antagonists of the story, the original phrase being "But screw your courage to the sticking place, and we'll not fail."

(2) I See the Light (Tangled) --VS-- (15) Waiting for a Miracle (Encanto) - 12-6
Encanto was a huge success on the Billboard 100 charts. Three songs from the movie were able to reach 20th or better on the chart (We Dont Talk About Bruno, Surface Pressure, and The Family Madrigal). This is even more impressive considering that only six other animated Disney movie songs have ever reached 20th or better. The other six songs are A Whole New World, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Let it Go, Colors of the Wind, Beauty and the Beast, and Circle of Life.

Round 2, Division 3

(1) The Imperial March (Star Wars) --VS -- (17) We Know the Way (Moana) - 14-5
We Know the Way was the first song written for the Moana movie and was originally going to be played during the opening of the movie, however, it was eventually moved to a later portion of the film.

(8) You're Welcome (Moana) --VS -- (9) Le Festin (Ratatouille) - 11-8
Disney planned to produce a wine to market the release of Ratatouille. The California Wine Institute warned them not to advertise alcohol with cartoon characters, and the plan was scrapped.

(12) Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid) --VS-- (28) Cruella de Vil (101 Dalmations) - 13-6
"Cruella De Vil" and "The Phony King of England"(from Robin Hood) are one of the few songs about a villain that are made by the protagonist characters to mock the villain.

(13) The X-Files Main Theme --VS-- (29) True Love's Kiss (Enchanted) - 13-5
Out of Enchanteds 107 minutes of running time, ten of the approximately 13 minutes of animation are at the beginning of the film. This was done in traditional hand-drawn animation as part of its homage to the early days of Disney animation.
