It sucks but was going to happen eventually. Games compatibility was what pushed me to windows 10. Next build I'm debating on staying with 10 or dealing with 11.

As long as users can access the games they bought, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I'm pretty sure after XP got discontinued, people could still access their library. Not sure if it's still possible, but it was for some time afterward

I keep seeing the argument that Windows 7 is 14 years old, but games were still being made with Win7 as the minimum requirement as of last year. So to be told that a Win7 game that you bought for a Win7 machine won't be playable on Win7 just sounds backwards to me. Just offer a legacy version of the Steam Client that has all the extra features stripped (community, friends, store, etc..), then they won't have to worry about an outdated OS "holding back" updates.

You really shouldn't be using those operating systems now anyways, but getting rid of support altogether because of some stupid Chrome crap is stupid.

There is an answer for those that don't want to get rid of their windows. Just set up your system so it dual boots into Linux. Linux is free, some versions work very similar to windows, and Steam will nearly always support Linux. Actually from what I remember hearing, Gabe actually prefers Linux and will go out of his way to make sure things run properly on Linux. Especially with the Steam Deck running Linux naturally.

I was hoping to chime in to share something like this. Looks like it's already been said. Also if you're running some archaic machine that runs an outdated OS you may as well try something less resource intensive.

Is it necessary to buy a new computer just for the new Windows?
Windows 10 should run on any PC that 7 or 8 runs on. Windows 11 has steeper requirements. (More about how recent it is than how powerful it is.)

Linux, if you want to go that route, will run on just about anything. They only very recently dropped support for some late 80s / early 90s hardware IIRC.

Seems that we don't have a choice anymore but to upgrade or get left behind. I hate to leave windows 7 but i have to now.

Realistically, if you play new PC games, this shouldn't even affect you, since new games have been Windows 10 as the required OS anyway, unless you're just playing oddball low spec indie games.

"Oddball" indies are my jam. Just take a look at this indie that launched today for Windows 7

At this point, you'd have better compatibility running Linux than you would sticking with Windows 7 honestly
