I've been through 3 laptops, and so far, none of them have crashed.

Quite awhile ago, and it started making that obnoxious "click click click" long before actually failing.

had one go in 2022. If your HDD arent failing fast enough for your tastes try to use them more.. take them on vacations and travel. Has your laptop been on a boat? If not always time to rectify that.

My last laptop was SSD because of 3 hard drive crashes in 10 years. The last laptop fell off my bed and broke into pieces but the SSD survived. Had the screen repaired but even without the screen I was able to use an HDMI cable to connect it to a TV to use it as a monitor.

Last week, I slammed my laptop shut to rejigger the wifi module (which often cuts out randomly for some reason) and it sent the computer into a reboot loop, lol. Glad I got all my projects and stuff off and onto my new computer last year, but I did lose my meme folder, so...that's a hard casualty.

Not sure I ever had a hard drive crash other than that, though.

I've corrupted HDDs more often than I should admit, usually by screwing around with dual-boots and linux partitions.

I got a new computer, I put all my information on and it was about about ready to go. Then the hard drive crashed. Since all my personal information was on it I didn't want to send it back in so. I just used another hard drive I had lying around.

Did you try taking the drive out and connecting to your new computer to retrieve files?

I took it out and reconnected it to the old laptop to see if that would solve anything, but that's about it. I know there are cables you can use to check the contents or something, so maybe I'll get those in the future.

I had a blue screen crash, one time last year. Can't remember what triggered it, but that was the only one since I put this together. Definitely not as common as it used to be with older computers

This is what you need. You only need to plug in the power adapter if it's a 3.5 drive. If it's a laptop, it should be 2.5 and won't need extra power.

Or alternatively, you can just this one. Won't work for 3.5 drives though since it doesn't have external power. But it's cheaper.

I've never had a hard drive crash with the click of death. I had one hard drive gradually die and eventually quit working completely. I've had a few get a bunch of uncorrectable sectors, reallocated sectors, or current pending sectors that I don't use anymore because I don't trust them to not corrupt my data.
