I really didn't expect this to happen any time soon just by getting a MacBook Pro for work, but it's probably happening. I've been an Android/Windows guy my whole life, but now I've got a MacBook Pro from work an a personal iPad.

From what I've seen in the last few weeks, MacOS/iOS is much more streamlined than Android/Windows, and then there are a number of points of quality that Apple devices have that I'm really enjoying. The sound quality from the speakers on the MacBook Pro and my iPad are so much better than any portable Windows/Android device I've ever had.

The main things holding me back right now are that I just got a new phone last year and I've been trying to avoid upgrading to a new phone every year, recently. I'd miss the stylus somewhat, but I don't use it a ton any more so I think I can get over it. I also don't really do much customization on Android any more, either. Years ago, I would get a new Android phone, immediately root it, and then do a bunch of tinkering in the OS... But in recent years, they've made Android much better to the point where I don't feel the need to do that at all. Then there's the fact that there are certain things that restrict you from doing anything if your phone is rooted these days.

I've just never been a fan of Apple or their OS. I hate that it only has the 1 dedicated face button where my phone has 3. My partner has an iPhone and I hate navigating it. I've also had to use her MacBook a couple times, and I'd just rather use Windows. I also hate how Apple refuses to play nice with non iMessage texts.

I used a MacBook Pro for work for a couple years and hated it. Also I don't see why having a work laptop would make you want to switch your whole phone ecosystem.

Only been a few things that have made me want to go android
Installing emulators and homebrew games
Porn apps
Third party apps for things like youtube twitch etc that have adblock

Iphone notifications are so fucking shit I dont understand how anyone could use them

Yeah, the difference in keyboard shortcuts is something I'm having to get used to. iOS definitely relies on the knowledge of swiping gestures more than Android does, but I think once I get used to it, I'll be fine with that.

The command button vs the CTRL button is also a pretty major difference. CTRL+ whatever is pretty much ingrained in muscle memory for me, and has been for a long time. I even had a Windows-oriented USB keyboard plugged into my Mac, but the CTRL on the USB keyboard isn't the same as the control key on the Mac, which I thought was weird. I ordered a keyboard made for Mac to use.

So I'm just now diving into the notification center on my iPad for the first time and I think it's fine. It's nice to be able to swipe away individual notifications on Android, but I've honestly just been letting notifications pile up on my Android phone recently because I stopped paying as much attention.

Yeah, my previous experience with iTunes is not great. I don't rely on local storage for music any more, though. All of my stuff is in Youtube music at the moment.

Meh. Those 10000 or so songs already inside my phone don't have ad breaks, and don't require a login or persistent internet connection.

Yeah... From what I remember, though, I don't get ad breaks on Youtube music. I'm also pretty much never without an internet connection of some sort. If I don't have internet connectivity, damn near mission number 1 is to go figure out where I left my phone.

I haven't had an iPhone since the 6. Android is just better.

I have Samsung everything from my phone to my refrigerator. Everything works pretty seamlessly as all devices/appliances are tied to my Samsung account and run on SmartThings. From an ecosystem point of view I could not be happier.

As an iPhone user, the main annoying thing is the music management.

Apple Music is legit terrible for dealing with hardwired MP3s.

10,000 songs? Wow!
I've got around 2000 in my itunes collection and I never back them up on my computer so when I get a new phone I have to download them 1 by 1. It takes quite some time with my slow home internet connection.

Had a great deal of difficulty trying to get the phone activated, but Verizon was able to get it done after about an hour and a half on the phone. They had to transfer me to a tier 2 agent.

I felt bad for the first lady who was helping me. She did everything she could according to their procedures, but was very sad about not being able to figure it out. I think itll be a lot easier in the future if I just upgrade to another iPhone. There was something about switching from a physical sim to an eSim on top of switching from Android to iPhone.

The last things I need to do is get my 2FA stuff for work switched over and then I can factory reset the old phone.

Ill probably just back up the photos and documents from my old phone to my windows pc and then decide what I want to put on my iphone
the transfer app was gonna take 16 hours to transfer 400GB of photos and videos.

I dont miss anything about the Android except for maybe the notifications. Also, what do you think of the iPhone so far?

I still have a functional first gen iPod.

Ironically never updated past the point when itunes moved away from the drag and drop folder behavior.

Im liking it so far. Ive spent a lot of time trying to get my apps arranged the way I want, and that has been a bit of a pain, but Im almost done with that.

Im at the point where I feel like Ive done about all I want to do on android so I started to get bored with it. Ive also started to run into some android specific limitations on a couple apps so I was ready to switch.

The phone feels much sturdier in the hand than the Galaxy S22 Ultra did. Slightly smaller screen, but thats ok so far.

I finally decided to try it out and got a 12 Pro two years ago. Still runs as good as it did new, all my Androids were starting to be sluggish at the 1.5 year mark, and I typically got the higher end ones.

Took a bit to get used to. I miss my GB/GBA/DS emulators and went a long time with YouTube not being able to minimize to a window while I did other shit but they finally added that feature, and I have an old Droid Turbo 2 that I turned into an emulator machine

Oh and yeah getting all my apps and passwords transferred over from my Galaxy S9 was a pain in the ass, but apparently its a super seamless experience upgrading to another iPhone. Dont plan on getting one until this stops receiving updates, which was another reason I wanted to switch since Apple supports them longer

Also also, I agree that iPhone feels way more sturdier and premium to me

I went from iPhone 6S to 13 Pro

a long hiatus but even without full service, its become my primary phone compared to my Android

I like both mobile OSes and go back and forth between an iphone 12 mini and a Pixel 6a pretty regularly. I usually find myself going back to iPhone for the general ecosystem, but honestly I think the 6a is a slightly better phone.

iOS is too restrictive and I don't want to give Apple money because of their bad business practices.

Alright, Ive got my work 2FA stuff migrated. Theres a weird issue with the Duo app on Android where it will stop receiving push notifications if you get more than a few in a short period of time. Then you have to start closing the app and opening it back up to get each new push notification.

Now I just need to look through the apps on my old phone to see if there is anything else I need to set up. Then Ill just copy all of the data off of the storage to my Windows PC and call it a day.

get the apple dongle to use iem/headphone on iphone. on android apple dongle does like -20 db pre-amp for some reason so doesn't get loud. have to use Universal Audio Player Pro on android to get it working at full volume but it also causes some apps to not function properly (like shazam). only apple smartphones can utilize it to its full potential without any issues

Yeah, a long time ago I was one of those heavily pro-Android and heavily anti-Apple folks, but as the years have gone on, I stopped caring entirely and became OK with both. Looking back on it, it was dumb.

If you recently started using iPhones be wary of thrid party charging cables. Theyre mostly garbage and its very easy to damage the connector. Basically be careful pulling out thats what she said to avoid the back end of the adapter plug catching.

I have to use one of those fast charging plates or mine will never charge.

This is great so far. I'm no longer running into those problems with the two apps I was dealing with. I'm also liking Apple's keychain a lot better than Android relying on Chrome to remember passwords. I also use a separate password manager for work and iOS integrates that much better by giving you a single pop-up and choosing which password manager you want to use instead of getting multiple pop-ups. I've been using my phone most of the day and I'm still at 54% battery life, which is great.

I think the next Apple device will be an Apple TV 4K.
