From Software has shown us they understand what is at the heart of Zelda more than Nintendo does. They took a lot of what made the original LoZ great and turned it into a modern game in a way thay Nintendo was never able to.

I think TotK will be an improvement on BotW, but I think it will feel like a step down after playing Elden Ring.

Eh they're overall pretty different. Like Elden Ring doesn't have towns or NPC's that do anything other than stand there or fight you.

The NPCs in BotW were pretty boring. But BotW does have its strengths. Traversibility being the main one. BotW was a game meant for being crawled all over with no limits, and it executes that perfectly. But in Elden Ring you just find cooler stuff, and your reward for finding cool stuff is more cool stuff, or more to explore.

Having played both of the games you're referring to (and not particularly enjoying them), I don't think either of them do, to be quite honest.

I've played both. 150 hours on botw. 200 hours on elden ring.

Elden ring the best part is leveling up stats and equipment and defeating enemies through mostly brute force and a lil bit of skill (i cba to try to master this game so relied on better stats).

Botw the best part is the cute little minigames . Bowling, rock climbing, hang gliding, and horse racing. I played those for hours. I also liked collecting the lil yellow poopies and collecting monster parts to create new costume. I also really loved visiting the fairies so I can hear the fairy music.

Overall I like them for diff things. I can't imagine elden ring ruining my enjoyment of totk if the latter has the same things as botw plus new minigames to try out

Demon's Souls is literally a 3D iteration of Zelda II, and they just built from there

Also, Elden Ring obviously drew a lot of inspiration from BotW, and not from western open worlds

Whether Elden Ring or BotW are superior is just a matter of taste tbh, Elden Ring does combat, enemy and boss design and build variety better, while BotW does exploration, physics and traversal better

Yeah From games are far more fun to explore.

Both seem like different games and different genres. Theres no reason to make Zelda a souls game, or to make a souls game like Zelda

Eh they feel really different to me.

Like they're similar genre, but two completely different mediums. I know after just replaying botw that I'm gonna love totk though.

Also that Elden Ring is just combat or avoiding obstacles. There's nothing else. Which yeah the combat is overall better but it's not like you can go paragliding or surfing down a mountain in ER.

They're just different. I like Elden Ring but there wasn't anything like suddenly seeing some non-hostile dragon in the air and wondering what that meant or discovering what that glowing thing in the mountain was. If TOTK has more of that stuff it'll be fine.
