I haven't even touched multiplayer yet because Bosco makes playing solo very manageable. Now that I'm familiar with all the mission types, I'll start bumping up the difficulty I imagine. And then I'll do multiplayer when solo starts to get too tough.

Yeah it's pretty great.

What class did you gravitate towards most strongly?

I've only played Driller and Gunner so far. Probably will be sticking with Driller for a good bit before trying the other two and Gunner again. The drills initially looked to be the most boring of the support/traversal items, but they're actually pretty great.

You should ditch the single player and jump into multiplayer. The interaction and rock and stoning with other players is the best thing about the game.

I don't like being kicked out because I'm not playing meta or doing whatever pro strategy the top 1% are doing. not everyone has been playing since beta so let's please be understanding that new players exist.

This.

The community is very welcoming and doesn't give newbies a tough time. Though I do agree that soloing with Bosco is amazing. He's probably the best companion bot in any game ever.

This game is casual fun. Its not some elitist mmorpg. As long as you don't double dip on the ammo resupply or press the button to end the mission before everyone is ready, no ones gonna kick you.

The deep rock community is one of the friendliest there is in gaming.

I don't think there even is some overarching meta that elitist randoms will get mad at you over. The game play is too frenetic for anyone to give a shit about your build because they're too busy struggling to survive themselves. The only thing that I've really seen that gets people mad is when someone won't stop pushing buttons or triggering events without communicating first, which should obviously be a no brainer anyways.

Only things you need to know for DRG multiplayer:

Take only one ammo slot, although if you think you are in need, ask if anyone is willing to sacrifice;

If you're wanting to start an event-based objective (extracting back to the pod, dreadnaughts, machine events, anything with a timer that will trigger enemies), ask if everyone is ready first;

Drink the god damn beers I pay for; and

Press V whenever anything happens. Killed a grunt? Rock and stone. Fell to your death? Rock and stone as soon as you get picked up. Standing around and bored? Rock and stone.

You'll run into the occasional jackass, as every game has, but DRG tends to be one of the games where the worst most will do is leave after a wipe without saying a word.

Don't worry about it. I've missed entire events before because I was off in my own corner of the cavern just minding my own business or because I got lost. As long as nobody has to come rescue you then I don't think your ignorance is a big deal. Even if they do have to rescue you it's still not a big deal cause that just makes for epic gamer moments and excuses to mash the salute button.

I'm sure the community is fine. I had mostly good experiences playing Vermintide 2 multiplayer, so I expect similar here. But unlike Vermintide 2, playing alone is actually quite fun so far. So I'm in no rush to go into multiplayer just yet.

I bumped it up to Hazard 3 because Hazard 2 was too easy, but I was not expecting such a massive difficulty spike. But then I found out that infinite overlapping waves is just a quirk of Point Extraction. Still, I would have beaten the mission if I wasn't so stubborn about getting the secondary objective done. I found all the Aquarq pretty easily, but I was far too determined to get the secondary objective. Should have abandoned it much sooner. I killed almost 700 enemies including a surprise Dreadnought in 50 minutes before killing myself with my own Satchel Charge.

Now I know better.

Yeah the other mission types on Hazard 3 are much fairer. Way more in line with what I expecting when bumping the difficulty up.

Absolutely loved that game. Then the people I played with stopped playing. I got bored of solo and don't really like jumping into games with randoms. I haven't played in months. But driller and gunner were the only classes that I played. Had no interest in the others.

Strangest cave formation that I ever found.

Just a tip for the missions where you have to collect the aquarqs. Drop them in a pile by the rig and deposit them all at once. It helps keep things from getting too rough while you collect. Depositing one at a time as you get them seems to ramp up the bug activity as you progress.

The waves in Aquard missions get more frequent the longer you stay in them. So if you have machine events or mini bosses like the korlok, get those out of the way first your you're going to be fighting them whilst dealing with the constant swarm.

I always dread to see these missions with secondary to defend those black boxes on elite deep drives which is hazard 5.5 on the 3rd stage. You really have find those quickly and get them done then haul ass.
