...Who the hell does that? Chao abuse is more messed up than anything i saw in CoD. on the gamecube the pick up, and attack buttons for Sonic Adventure 2 battle were mapped the same on the controller, and caused accidents...lost sleep on those nights. Then to make it worse the nurse you take it to calls you out. ):

Looking through the gardens again, and still don't want to do it. I just want it to learn to sing, dance, and draw shadow's face. You could even psychologically mess it up to where it bullies other chao! What a miserable 3-5 hours of life.

Omochao can get fucked though.

The Chao Garden in SA2 was something else. Definitely well ahead of its time, even if I didn't use it much. One of the only things that's legitimately unique with Sonic, and we never saw it again.

There are games where you can wipe out all life on the planet, and you're still right. Jumping and accidentally landing on your darling little chao is the worst feeling in the world.

on gamecube you had to go out of your way to attack the chao by standing still and pressing the button prompt, it's not ilke the dreamcast original where you could easily spin dash into them by accident (a move disabled entirely in the ports)

It still happened by accident more than i like to admit. The crying and looks of pain haunt my nightmares.

On dreamcast did anyone else like to use the Virtural memory card chao advanture game while you went out? It's where the game boy advance station is now you put your chao into. There was like dozens of events for your chao on the road.

The system still holds up today i think with a community since it's so deep. People love raising, and breeding them.

I definitely made sure to be extra careful when I was in the garden. It did always make me sad to see my little buddy go flying into a wall.

I need to unlock Chao hell and Chao Heaven somehow, might as well have fun bullying them.

It's still pretty easy to throw them on accident too. If you're holding them and want to put them down, but you have a little momentum still with SA2's kinda slippery movement, and end up tossing your chao across the map into a rock wall.

Remember giving them something to wear on their head, realizing later that you hate it and want it taken off, and that the only way is to yeet them? Feels bad, man.

I'm surprised they never attempted to make mobile Chao Garden game. That seems like it would be easy money to me.

I think they did, though

A. Kudos for using the proper plural for Chao.

B. I loved when a Chao was fully dark or good so they would make faces at the opposing morality side characters. So much personality.

This game. Sonic Adventure 2. It's the goal of one of your characters in the Dark story.

...Okay fine, canonically it doesn't end up happening. But if you stop after the Dark story, it seems implied.

But for realsies, Undertale and Elden Ring are the ones that come to mind right now.

Absolutely criminal that SEGA has not brought this back yet. The did make the Chao Soda short though which was amazing.

Darker maybe, but it doesn't (yet) have an option to erase all of existence or whatever. Neither game compares to the guilt of accidentally bounce attacking your chao though.

One of the coolest things is the return of the Dreamcast gardens because (and I have no idea why) the other versions SA2 had worse gardens. The Hero garden had a river and a bridge in it, while the Dark garden had an underground, underwater cave that led a shrine looking thing. Plus, it had a hill that the chao could clime on. All of that was removed.

The gardens in this mod seem so much better, plus there are new skins and day night cycles I believe.

I remember one time after doing a Chao race in SA1 on the Dreamcast, I came back to the garden with this weird bug. My garden was all of a sudden full of new Chao who were close to death. Like I walked in and several Chao immediately started doing their death cocoon. I walked back out and back in and same thing. I threw a couple in the water so they wouldn't immediately die. Had to drown them to save them. I think I did end up saving 1 or 2 for good though. But it was so weird. I was only supposed to have like 2 or 3 chao in there at the time, but my garden randomly got full of dying chao.

Yep.

In those games you get to separate yourself from the violence like in GTA - here, the chao garden constantly reminds you of the past abuse, and it's effect on the chao...constant crying/struggling when you pick it up to get out. Then the said accusations from the doctor...is there a CPS (Chao protective services) mod?

Put it this way...you wanna know if your kid is fucked up? A therapist should let them in the garden, and see what they do.

That was just the fertilizing process. You came back to early before the landscapers were done.

Lol it does kind of remind me of Ben Drowned. It's weird though, I've never heard of that glitch happening to anyone else before, and I've never seen it again once I saved the few Chao I could. So unnerving just randomly seeing a few Chao looking depressed or crying then hitting their death cocoon.

Yeah, that's really weird. I've never heard of anything like that. Were the chao you already had still in the garden? Or were they replaced with the mysterious dying chao?

It's been a very long time, but if I recall correctly, my chao were still there. I think what happened is the empty chao spots (I think a garden can hold 8?) got randomly filled up. I only had 2 or 3 chao in my garden beforehand.

Has anyone ever actually had their chao get sick? Ive seen it happen in videos but apparently its so unbelievably rare, that why its even in the game is weird. Your chao will cough and you gotta take them to the doctor who gives them meds. Thats the only time the doc will say your chao are not healthy. Ive never had it happen.
