You can acknowledge someone trying while still making your point that it might not be enough. And having money go towards the causes of what the person is harming is definitely more than nothing. It's just people not understanding or caring how people work. No one is gonna come around when you yell "fuck your efforts" anything that's not 100% what you want. They're gonna feel like they'd rather do something else where people might acknowledge their effort. Which, tbf, if someone wants to find the people being extra so they can go "nevermind! Im doing nothing then!", they can find them no matter how little they represent the majority. People who just want the credit for trying even though they were looking for the first out from the gate. As much as you don't like the people you're talking to, if they give you leeway, you should acknowledge it and make them feel good for coming around. That way they feel like making even more of an effort is worthwhile. Unless you live in a fantasy land where you're eventually gonna win somehow by waiting for people to magically 100% come around all at once just cause it's the right thing to do while you constantly shit on their smaller efforts. You need to work around people and not live in a fantasy where you can do what you want and people will eventually either die out or conform. Make an effort to make those with potential actually noticed. Nobody today has the patience MLK had when he actually made progress. Disinformation needs to be debunked and called out whenever it pops up, especially from people with as wide of an influence as Rowling, so people have the actual facts when it comes to trans people.
