Since I don't feel like looking it up--what the fuck is in McD's fries that make them not vegan? And you have BK as your top choice, why is that?

Mcdonalds fries have "beef flavoring", which is actually milk based so they're vegetarian but not vegan

I'm a stickler for plant-based proteins when it comes to vegan meals. If you just serve a bunch of starches or veggies, it's not a real meal in my eyes

The problem is that none of the fast food places have dedicated spaces for vegan stuff so none of it is really vegan ( -_-)

That's the nature of the beast. Restaurants tend to have very cramped and tiny kitchen areas and are an extremely rushed and frantic environment. even if you order a vegan meal there's likely to be meat juices flying everywhere, a shared fryer with meat products, a line cook touching meat with the same hands they touched your food with, etc. Even if you're in a grocery store probably meat wrapped in thin plastic touched the bottom of your shopping cart where you're putting your produce. The person checking out your groceries isn't going to wash hands between touching a meat product and touching your stuff. Nobody has time for that.

Some people don't like cross contamination at all. Call ahead to the restaurant, see if they're nice enough to go out of their way to avoid it. Or don't eat at non-vegan restaurants at all. You do you

totally. it's so annoying that McDs and Wendy's dont have any veg burger. BK's had one for a long time, even before Impossible.

Bibibop is a Korean inspired 'assembly line' place around here that's real good. almost all of the topping options are vegan and they have good, fried tofu.

The plant "meatballs" from IKEA are excellent, and cheaper than the cow ones.

Subway has veggie patties they just don't have any tvp lunch meat.

I was impressed by the flavor and visual on the first try, though I overcooked it slightly. The recipe I used said 7-9 minutes at 400
I had it in the oven for about 9 minutes and 45 seconds total and it still tasted burnt

I just tried orgain protein powder and it was horrible compared to optimum nutrition whey

This vegan substitute lifestyle is rough

I've been using the unflavored Now Sport pea protein and just making my own blend with some monkfruit sweetener and flavorings. It doesn't taste great but it's maskable and the texture is very nice. It was also super economically priced until recently which was the biggest selling point.

This is a long video but pretty good. I still have like 10lbs of this pea protein but once that's gone, I'm going to try one of their recommended ones.

You'd have to order the burger without cheese and sauce for completely avoid animal products though. But the shake and custard are vegan it seems.

Not vegan but I buy Beyond burgers every now and then. They're made from pea protein and they're actually pretty good. Much better than the ones made from soy.

What did you end up making yesterday?

I made the terrible decision to go out with someone almost entirely on the basis of them being vegan and it ended up being the worst date of my life. <_<

I made a vegan mac and cheese for lunch (usually my go to meal when I don't have any other ideas of what to make). then for dinner I was going to make tostadas, but ended up being great northern beans and kale on top of a tortilla when I realized I didn't have any ingredients to make actual tostadas

I sauted asparagus and julienne cut carrots and zucchini in an Italian herb butter with garlic. Made some Italians sausage tofurkey to go with it. Pretty good dinner.

Easy homemade donuts. You take a can of biscuits (some are vegan some aren't so check the label), you poke holes in the middle, and you deep fry them in a Wok for about 3 minutes on both sides.

made this dill and dijon potato salad for tomorrow. it's pretty yummy and is just creamy enough for this kind of potato salad.

I used tahini + water (5 tbsps total) instead of the vegan mayo, but only because I have tahini I need to use and don't have mayo.
