Sounds like a laxative

makes no difference to me, but some people prefer to be referred to as a part of that group, and many others don't.

so, if someone from the former were to ask me to use it, I wouldn't mind, but I'd also say "Latino" or "Latina" if the person asked me to, as well.

Do I wanna piss off my trans friends today, or my Hispanic friends?

Dont care because Im not Latino. They can use it or complain about it as they see fit lol

I keep wanting to pronounce it as lah-tinks.

Just like x is a dumb letter. As a matter of fact, c, q, and x are useless letters. They either should be removed, or they should start to represent new sounds. I have proposed in the past that c is now ch, q is now th, and x is now sh. There should be a letter added that represents zh as well as English could really use the buff.

As a Latino I personally think its offensive. Latino is already gender neutral.

A majority of Hispanic people don't like the term, and have other preferred alternatives.

You cannot shoehorn gender-neutral into a language where literally everything is "gendered".

Agreed, the word "Latino" is gender neutral. LatinX does expose one as being from the US and ironically reveals oneself as an outsider

latino is gender neutral for centuries. When referring to a group of Latinos its Latinos whether theyre a mix of male or female.

Only time its latinas if its specially a group of women.

I hate it and you should feel bad for trying to change how I speak in Spanish.

Kind of this: I might be a part of the demographic, but Ive never actively identified as it. So the second part is how I see it. Its for people who would be effected by its usage.

I have no horse in this race but coming from an outsider perspective, it seems like white women are pushing for it and meanwhile the people who would be referred to by it largely hate it

I am Latino but I also don't care if people use it/don't use it

Every single Spanish person I have met hate it. It rolls the tongue terribly in French. I assume spanish people feel the same way. If non binary hispanics want to be called Latinx, normalize it for the non binary, not for all the population

I try to throw at least one x into every racial term that I use. It makes things easier. Nothing succinctly identifies me as a douchebag as going by xXWhiteXx420 on my gamertag. And no porn is as easy to find as bbxxx

Do white people have a particular affinity toward gender neutral language, or is it largely hated in that group, as well?

You should consider that the term wasn't created for the group as a whole, but for the transcommunity within that demographic. Do you think hispanic culture, which tends to have very strict boundaries of masculinity/machismo, is likely to be particularly welcoming of transpeople?

no, my gf is mexican and we go to and from mexico pretty often. im not going to say its a hellhole for LGBTQ people but its not the most welcoming still especially if youre outside mexico city.

its still a very heavily catholic country. Very conservative

I couldn't settle on the joke wording there and changed it in an edit. I was afraid adding it to BBC would be a censor bypass. I'm unsatisfied with it in it's current form though

In the same way that "man" or "guys" is gender neutral. Which is that male is just default.

I don't think I have a right to speak on this, as it is not my demographic. However, I'm dating a Hispanic man and he doesn't like it at all

I'm white so I don't have a dog in the race and most of the people Hispanic people I interact with seem to range from generally-prefer-latino-but-whatever to active-disdain-for-Latinx, so I say Latino.

I think the idea of pushing a ban on the term is absolutely silly.

I never cared. I never even cared to find out my DNA to even know just how Mexican I am. Id rather see Latins more represented in the mainstream rather than arguing over what to call us. So worried about what to say while acknowledging the one respectable mainstream movie we get a year lol

It's terrible not even sure who uses it it. What I find odd is that why do they stop at that only? Like tornado why not call it tornadx to avoid tornado/tornada

Nobody's going to jail for "latinx". It's just state government (mostly just Florida) style-guides strongly discouraging the use in official documents.
