No gimmicks. Just level up, learn new spells, and use MP

Yeah, if a person is a righty and you put it in his left hand, he'll do less damage

Oh
Most characters are righty's anyway. The only ones that are different are Kain (Lefty), Palom (Lefty), and Edge (Ambidextrous). I think that's it.

It at least guaranteed all of the characters played differently. Many of the FF battle systems resulted in most of the characters being carbon copies by the end of the game.

Yeah, that's what I hate about FFV to FFVIII. All the characters are just blank slates and don't really have an identity in battle. I like when they just have assigned classes from the get-go

Not really. Characters keep coming and going so it's impossible to synchronise their levels.

I prefer FFV because having all the different jobs you can max out gave me an incentive to grind. Having more to level up than just your main level was fun for me, and your characters start on a level playing field so you can synchronise levels.

Or, you know, FF5, where they can do that for the entire game.

Needed character to have synchronized levels sound a teeny bit OCD.

A job system is different from blank slate characters like 7, 8, 10, 12 original

In FF5, I always did Monk for everyone until they learned Bare-handed. It saves so much money >_>

FFVI had their own abilities in addition to being able to use Espers and learn spells

Best of both worlds

Yeah, it's a me thing. I can at least accept it in Final Fantasy X because the sphere grid system makes it easy to get everyone the same amount of spheres.

most people wouldn't get ultima until much later than the two thirds of the game if they get it at all. and not every party member would end up learning it unless you grinded a whole damn lot. and while magic is strong, some characters have an innately shitty magic stat and decently strong abilities

Meh, it was okay but not fun or interesting. For limited job types of systems, I think 9 did it better.

It's amazing and the level complaint isn't even really a good one because most of your stat weight comes from the gear which is why speedruns and low level runs in general are possible. You were expected to run from like half the battles fwiw. That's why you'd be in the 30s range by the time you finally got Edge who joins at like 23. Because you really didn't need to do any of that grinding if you could pick up on boss mechanics.

I didn't do it for everyone but white and black mages and summoners with Barehanded could clean up.
