From what I understand, it's just for some reason Mindy got to do a Scooby show, but she writes it like all her other stuff. And that is self-deprecating jokes about South Asians and wanting to date the white man.

Seems like she gets projects and people watch whatever they are because she helped write for The Office.

I mean.... if I wanted to watch a diverse cast of people solving mysteries, I'd just watch Mike Tysons Mysteries. Yeah... it's that bad. They diversified just for the sake of diversity.

• Jokes become exhausting in the meta, not-for-kids Scooby Doo prequel.
• You have to wonder, in the development of Velma, where did everything go so horribly wrong?
• Sporadically witty but ultimately rather tedious, the HBO Max comedy leverages more than a half-century of name equity to yield an animated prequel thats definitely not for kids, meddling or otherwise.
• Its been done before, and much better, using unique takes on the gang that maintained their essence, so Velma is never as groundbreaking as it seems to think it is. More than that, these characters are just really unpleasant to spend time with.

Fred is a stuckup rich boy who only cares about "hot" people and literally can't cut up and eat his own food.
Daphne is a stereotypical Mean Girl.
Shaggy is actually smart, cringe, and a bit of a simp.

Okay Spoilers for the first 10 mins.

Velma Complains about Superheroes being white men or hot women who got mad.

Two cockroaches have sex, just to be crushed by someone dressed like the killer from I know what you did last summer.

Girls are in shower not even being meta. Just talking about TV pilots. Like Meta is one thing. They were just giving a description of their situation.

Daphne gets in a shower fight with someone over Riverdale.

For some reason in the middle of this fight Velma still dressed like a 90s killer, hits Daphne and knocked her into some lockers around 15 feet away. All to ask her what does she think about race blind casting.

They find dead a body in Velma's locker she is arrested. And now talking to Daphnes LESBIAN parents. I highlight that because the show made sure to point it out. Then a whole expedition dumb. Will all shit one of the things that bothered me the most. Was when talking to Daphne's parents. Velma was sure to say.

" Well your adopted daughter this and that." Like just so forced and unnatural. I think we can put two and two together since her parents are black and white.

I dont have a weird boner for the Scooby-Doo gang and I thought it's pretty meh. One actual chuckle in two episodes when the show is packed to the roof with jokes is not a good ratio.

Still, I'm content to just not watch anymore instead of crying about the sanctity of a talking dog, his friends and sometimes Batman solving crimes.

It's not the worst thing, but it's still a below a 5 bad. And this is coming from a guy that wanted to like it, but I would be lying to myself if I can even call it average.

The "meta" part of the Velma show is that it was made to fail lol. It's pretty obvious the showrunners either HATE the Scooby Doo IP or want to use it as controversy fodder.

That's the twist.
That's why Warner Bros said they refused to include the iconic dog in the mix.
They don't want the most marketable character associated with an orchestrated trainwreck. Everyone else is free game.

If you're upset at the ridiculous writing and blatant sabotage of trademark characters, stop taking it seriously. You're getting played. The trolling within the writing was intentional. It doesn't have to make sense to you why. Just know that's what it is.

When you stop looking at it like some activist celeb trying to "woke-ify" a childhood series and more like a deliberate attempt to crap all over a classic IP to stir up attention, it ironically starts making clearer sense lmao. Don't worry. No matter how hated this gets, it won't destroy the franchise. It's Velma, not Scooby Doo. And the WB execs know that. It's why it got greenlit.

I've not watched it, but I will say it's been equally shit upon by both left and right wing people for entirely different reasons.

Space Jam 2 - Giant crazy mishmash of Warner Bros IP, actually to an insane extent where they even have the guys from Clockwork Orange hanging out in the background.

Matrix 4 - The Matrix is a popular IP within the movie's story.

I think they're both easily better than Velma though.

Even without the subtitles, the artwork conveys a total lack of understanding of the established Velma character. She looks unapologetically mean in these stills. Which does not vibe with anything we've really seen out of the character of Velma.

Which combined with what I've heard about the rest of the show, it isn't like this is a one off. She's apparently unapologetically a bitch throughout with no redeeming qualities to speak of.

Diversity is fine. Including how ironically diverse the critics are while shitting on this show rofl. I'm seeing white, black, asian, hispanic, etc content creators taking shots at how bad the writing is. LGBTQ creators too. Even a few long time Mindy Kaling fans have made review vids saying "omg gurl, why did you sign up for this trash, you're better than this ". This shit seems like it's brought everyone together to dump on it.

It's like even the demographics the showrunners would be typically aiming for are like WTF at it too. This is why I think the suspicion that the show being over-the-top trolling might be closer to the intended truth. I don't know if Mindy Kaling herself just straight up hated Scooby Doo for years and this is catharsis. I don't know if some of the writers have post trauma after looking up Rule 34 Velma and this is . I don't if this is all just another stunt to sink a project in time for tax season. It's Warner Bros, all bets are off.

Velma has no reason to compare herself to a comedian other than that a comedian is doing the voice acting.

I don't get it. They had Mystery Incorporated to look at for inspiration on how to grow and change these characters while still having them be recognizable as their old selves. They have no excuse for this shit show.

From what I understand Mindy Kaling had a show she wanted to do. She went to HBO and they shot it down saying "just adapt what you wanted to do so it fits the Scooby Doo show we want to make.

As someone who finds online man baby outrage to be pathetic, I have to admit I had less than zero interest in watching that show.

I don't see any reason for why it was made.

Saw the two episodes that are out.

The jokes aren't that great.
The animation is pretty good.
Velma is an incredibly unlikable character, however, the second episode did show just a tiny hint of character growth so maybe she'll get better
Ironically enough, Fred is the best part because he's so extreme that it ends up being humourous.
Shaggy is the most likeable character, by far.
Daphne is ok I guess, she hasn't really done anything yet.

It also moves way too fucking fast.
In episode 1
Velma straight up tries to murder Daphne. Eventually you find out that they used to be good friends, but Velma feels like Daph abandoned her to hang out with the popular kids


Then in episode 2
They end up in a lesbian relationship
