I have cousins from Vietnam, Brazil, and Germany. James Cameron is a household name, they all know who he is and most of his famous films like terminator, aliens, and titanic. They all also know what Avatar is as well, so yes I can say that there is definitely a big international crowd for this series. It's very early to tell, but Avatar 1 is theaters highest grossing film specifically because the movie was meant to watch in 3D, which meant more people over time wanting to see the film in that way. It might not make a whole lot of money in the short term, but you can bet they are banking it in the long term for profits. With Disney basically owning the IP, you can bet they are going to corporatize the shit out of it like Star Wars and Marvel, then you'll finally get your "cultural impact" in the most mainstream way possible. --- DI MOLTO! ... [LFAQs-redacted-quote] What about about it? It opened in 3.5k theaters, with 2k 3D. The first 12 days brought in $280 million here. 13 years later, 10 days in, and 2 is at $280 million. Tickets are like double the price now. Almost every theater also has 3D now. Avatar 2 is actually one of Disney's widest releases ever. Some movies just don't do well in the US, but do amazing everywhere else. It's happened many times before. --- "It lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge" ... Movies and TV shows quoting other TV shows and movies isn't really as much of a thing as it used to be. How many people know references because of things referenced in The Simpsons? Is there even anything like that anymore? --- A Fallen Mascot ... Copied to Clipboard!

SaccharineSmile posted... nobody or just the internet?I can count on one hand the number of conversations I heard, on or offline, about Avatar after 2010, that had nothing to do with either its effects, or it being a pochahontas/dances with wolves ripoff story. and everywhere I've looked, my experience does not seem isolated. The movie was a firework show. A big, flashy spectacle that was over and forgotten almost immediately. And you know the funny thing about firework shows? People go and see new ones, year after year, time after time. That's why money has nothing to do with cultural impact. The zeitgeist was completely unchanged. --- Haven't had a good sig idea since 2006 ... Copied to Clipboard!
