Resident Evil has the right formula right now. Who wants to play these 25+ hour games that all needlessly tack on open world and RPG style customization. Like why does every organ in GOW need to be upgraded

There isnt one length that suits all games and there never has been. The important thing should be that it doesnt outstay its welcome or make you feel ripped off.

some games are bloated and pointless (coughubisoft) but imagine spending 70 bucks on a game you play over the weekend and then forget about

I do. Actually 25+ still too short, it needs to be 60+ preferably. Heck I'm 300 hours into P5R and after that I'll get more into Witcher 3. And I spent most of last year playing Rune Factory 4 Special. I still need to do more in Rune Factory 5 too but that Rune Factory 3 Special is coming out.

This. For most action/platformers a handful of hours tops is enough before it gets too repetitive. Most (non-tactical) RPGs are good for like 10-30 hours, and games like Subnautica can never be long enough imo.

$1 per hour for me or the game isn't worth it.

I kinda want to play a full price short game one day just to see what it's like. At the end of the day tho I like them long and throbbing with content. But I'm sure short is fine too, it's all about how you play it.

Back to the main topic though, visual novels and jrpgs have a really big emphasis on story so they really do need to be much longer than 10 hours or they're just not worth playing even at $40 a pop.

Most games can be beaten under 10 hours tbf. Just watch a speed run of a fave game of yours. Most likely gonna be shorter than 10 hours. Ofc there are cases where a world record run is around 125 hours (oldschool runescape quest cape record run) but not too common

Im not paying $70 for 10 hours of gameplay. Never ever.

I tend to favor shorter games, for sure. If I didnt have to work, or didnt have other hobbies, friends, family, etc. then Id be cool with really long games but, nah, Im good with something on the shorter side.

They all have their place. I don't have time for super lengthy games these days but when I was younger the longer the better.

I tend to alternate between short and long games, because I love a good huge game to lose myself in for a couple of months but it can't be all I play.

I really like finding games on Gamepass that can be finished in a day or two and making a weekend out of it

In terms of semi open world games I absolutely agree. Games feel like a to do list like God of war ragnorak currently.

The side quests feel like added bloat to a game and traveling from one end of the map to the next Is flat out not fun or engaging. Maybe it's just me but I'm just growing tired of game series turning to open world games that are filled with filler things to do.

If I want a game to only last for 10 hours or less, it's probably because I hated playing it to begin with.

Those speed runners likely spent hundreds of hours figuring out how to beat those games that fast. Those going for world records likely spent thousands of hours to get that time.

Wrong. Some games should be short and sweet. Some you should strap yourself in for the long haul. Theres a place for both. Its dumb zoomer mindset that all things need to be short. The kind of mindset that puts a keep watching warning on a 7 second long tik tok clip

I definitely agree with this point, especially the RPG customization. This shit needs to stop.

Nah, ten hours is too short. That's not enough time to really get into a gameplay loop assuming the game has at least two hours of story and downtime.

99% of game developers never have enough ideas to fill up more than 5 hours' worth of gameplay. If a game is longer than that, you're almost certainly just repeating things you've already done but with a different backdrop.

Shorter games need to at least have enough side content to back it up. I don't want to see a game collect dust on my shelf on the same week that i bought it.

Longer games tend to drag on too long and I'll lose the motivation to finish the game halfway through because either it starts getting stale or i just don't have the time for it.

I don't need everything to be Xenoblade level length, but those games have a place.

It's all about what kind of games you like.

A linear story-driven game? Honestly, I'm in the same boat. I don't need a massive epic of a story that's often padded anyway.

An open world exploration game? Barring a situation where it's an indie game with an upfront small world, open world games with only ten hours of an interestingly explorable world sounds like a ripoff to me.

Agreed. And in the spirit of catering to TC's limitations, sex shouldn't be longer than 10 seconds anymore.

Just stick to shooters if you want all of your games to be short. I'd prefer that rpgs keep their 40-80+ hour lengths. There are plenty of games where I'll hit the 100 hour mark and I'm still having fun.

5 short to 1 long game ratio.

anything under 25 hours is a short game.
i finish those in under a week. would be shorter but i have to watch a dog during the day so i kinda lose some time for ps4.

edit: i should be through to my next game within 2-3 days.

I've spent 10 hours grinding in the first area or two of a jrpg more than once

There re plenty of games that are shorter than that, play those.
