The tail seemed tough, or I was missing it a lot. One of my pets cut it towards the end of the hunt which I managed to record and will post here later. I was kinda bewildered by what happened so I just froze like a dummy <_<

Now on to the Risen comet. Edit: Jesus did you look at the Velkhana boots? 1 point Element Exploit, 5 points Ice Attack, 3 points Crit Elem(still kinda meh), and 4/1/0 slots. Also pretty cool that each piece of Frostcraft comes with the maxed levels of QS, Crit Draw, and Focus. It's too bad Crit Draw was changed in this game because I otherwise would've been really excited for the return of Frostcraft Crit Draw GS.

Yeah that leg is insane for ice sets.

Level 1 slots have gotten much better with spiritbird call, blessings and defiance existing so makes it very convenient to get your kush blessing and QoL stuff

They nerfed the frozen ground move for no reason. It used to get past Guard Up, mantles, etc. and I'm pretty sure I just walked through it no problem.

Valstrax's new ambush is pretty cool, and they even changed up one of his powering up moves which reminded me of OG Valstrax.

Got the velkhana crystal off my first hunt. Hells yes!

Well couldn't beat Risen Valstrax. I think that's the first monster in all of Rise and Sunbreak where I failed on the first attempt at fighting them. I even upgraded my armor, though even after that it's my lowest defense armor set in the game. -9 dragon resistance also didn't help.

Guess I'll have to try again tomorrow.

I have no idea what to make of Dragon Conversion at first glance so I guess I'll just wait for Reddit/GFAQS people to do the math. Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax hits so damn hard. Even those weak ass palm swipes from regular Crimson Glow are hitting for like a quarter to a third of my health now. Only beat him with Lance so far and I plan to do it again later with SnS, but for now I'm tired out.

Was doing a two large monster quest, but didn't pay attention to which one I picked. Killed the wrong monsters then ran out of time right before killing the one I was supposed to.

I've attacked the wrong monsters in bloodlust too. The worst one was when I started hunting a non-target Monster with someone here and I guess he just didn't question it because he started beating it up too. I corrected myself after like a minute or two though.

Oh wow maybe now we can get that skill on some armor with decent slots, and with last update's new Qurio crafting option it shouldn't be too hard(ymmv). Edit: Oh and yeah it probably was you Pika. I couldn't remember if it was you or Hambo but it was a such a funny moment.

I'm really happy about Velk being added now.
Using the Velkhana waist I can now have focus 3 and power prolonger 3 on my swaxe set.
Until I get my anomaly rank up to get Risen stuff, this is a huge bump for me!

Honestly it sounds familiar. It mighta been the three of us lol. I know I've gone off task in multiplayer hunts before. Usually it's just to mount something, but when someone else starts smacking around a non-target monster, I'm not gonna question it lol.

I don't know if its a good thing or bad thing about this game, but I am 20 hours in and watched a few tips videos on youtube and still didn't understand some of the things they were talking about lol

How many Monster Hunter's have you played? There's a lot to take in, even with some of the new stuff if you've played older one's.

Most of us have been building these skillets for over a decade, some of us nearing two. We took it on little by little as it came over that time.

You're taking it on all at once.

Whew beat Risen Crimson glow by the absolute skin of my teeth second try and absolutely would not have won without fortify.

He punishes heals more then pretty much anything as everything he does has so much range and/or speed plus those delayed explosions.

Welp no wonder I had such trouble with the tail on Velkhana. My first one was a gold crown.

After putting it off I did my first Rampage, and I can already tell, as soon as I fail one of these I'll be done with the game, because I didn't like it and don't want to do them.

Rampages are pretty awful solo. They're a little bit better in multiplayer though. I'm pretty sure there are only like two you're actually required to complete. Not entirely sure.

I keep forgetting we can level quests down to 100. It's pretty useful for getting random tier 1 materials since right after the first level cap raise the rewards went to shit.

Yeah I've been using that to finally clear out all the weapons I had on my wishlist still.

I wish I could craft better weapons. All mine max out at like 120 and barely any blue blade color.
I need to settle on a plan and grind some stuff out I guess.

What point in the game are you at? Still doing Village quests or have you moved on the Hub? You'll start getting access to more weapons once you hit High Rank in the Hub.

I am doing both.
I do all the 2 Star in the Village, then all the 2 Star in the Hub.
Do the Urgent Quest to unlock the next level of quests, repeat.
I am HR2 now, but will be HR3 as soon as I do a Rampage.

Anyone made it to 220 yet? I've been slacking due to updates in other games I play this week, but I plan to play a lot tomorrow at least.

No because I'm PS5 and I just finished builds for everything I use so I'm at like 160 until Sunbreak in multiple months.

Oh I was talking about Anomaly Ranks not Hunter Rank, but while we're on that topic I don't think you need to be past HR100 for anything, and for Master Rank you only need to be at I think 120 for one of the Risen Elder Dragons?

I bothered getting every guild card award in this game like World/Iceborne, and you can't crown farm in Investigations in this game so my playtime got really skewed. I think I'm at like 700/500 for HR/MR.

Man what's the point of having a 999 cap if there's nothing after like 120. World had stuff way past that

Base Rise don't have scaling content. But it has more monsters and variations of skeleton than base World.

Sunbreak is much better than Rise though so it's kinda sad they're spacing out the release this much. Just get it on Steam or forget about it for a while

You sure? I remember Iceborne needing MR 100 to start fighting Ruiner and finish augments but like nothing else. There is that lobby icon for MR 999 in Sunbreak but I can't imagine many care about that. Now I'm wondering what I stopped at for World/Iceborne.

Base World had some quests with high requirements, but they weren't anything new

The last MR unlock as of TU4 is 160 and there's reason to believe it'll be 200 in TU5

Decided I'm a sword and shield guy.
Went out of my way to hunt for an item for a specific weapon upgrade.

Basically, I think I am a Monster Hunter guy now.
Tempted to buy World since I see it used for like $6.

So is beating Magnamalo in the Village the unofficial end of the game?

You beat him, there is a big cinematic, credits roll.....then right after the credits they come back to tell you hey there is still way more to do lol. Like what is the point of acting like its the end when it is clearly not?

Also I thought it was funny that 28 hours in, after I beat Magnamalo and credits rolled, I finally got my second achievement.

That's the end of the offline stuff and the first credits. The ending in these games pre-expansion is the last Monster in the High Rank Hub, where you'll get another set of credits. I should probably bring up the fact that the last boss of Vanilla Rise actually got another fight in an update, so you're not really done with the plot until after you beat the original game entirely <_<

Was just a mid tier fight. Malzeno by comparison, even taking into account of it doing less dmg, was significantly more fun of a fight. At least I can blast dash over her icicle walls

Velkhana would have been fine as one of the earliest Title update monsters I think. It's about on par with Chameleos, Kushala, and Teostra. But coming in so late with all the crazy skills and high defense the hunters have now makes it lackluster. The biggest disappointment is that it doesn't seem like we will be getting a Risen Velkhana.

I disagree. Literally nothing was done to make it fit into the Rise mechanics. Izuchi has more of a toolkit to anti-wirebug you than Velkhana has. It's also really ugly. It has lost all it's sheen and shine. Its beam attacks in particular just look like a mess of particle effects. A lot of monsters have some sort of creative work to ride the lack of graphical fidelity compared to World. Teostra's particles, etc. Velkhana is just eating a big fat downgrade. It also seems needlessly beefy to me, but I could be wrong about it, haven't played Iceborne in a long time.

Are you playing on PC? Cuz you can do classic filter and max graphics, and it generally looks cleaner than World at max graphics. Not sure how it looks on the Switch, which I played up to Rise on.

I never played World or Iceborne, so I can't compare it to that. I can see why it'd be disappointing to those that did though.

Pls stop Giant Velkhana is even more godawful to cut his tail is even higher and I get so many whiffs cuz wierd spacing.

Also holy fuck he flails so fucking much when downed makes me whiff so much when he is downed. One of the WORST offenders in the game.

Yeah I'm 156, so still a while away.

Velkhana has been an extreme nuisance with Lance compared to being a joke with Switchaxe. It's mostly because of how I play Lance I think. I have only one point of Guard so the ice attacks chip away my health significantly. The constant iceblight also makes it a bit harder to use Sheathing Retreat along with my more offensive silkbinds. Most of my Lance fights involve frequent use of Anchor Rage and Insta-block's Cross Slash, neither of which seem to be working as well against this monster in particular. Maybe it's because Velkhana is so spindly and hard to hit. On the flip side though, Skyward Thrust is fantastic vs. Velkhana.

I knew I had a small crown Velkhana because I could reach the tail, lmao.

Anyone got a good Afflicted Diablos with Seething anomaly at level 150+?
