I ended up at Thunderbird Lounge over the weekend and they had the election news on one of the TVs. I made a joke about how Trump was going to ride the red wave created by Karizona Lake back into office and I was asked to leave. Even the suggestion of how ridiculous him running again was upsetting to people, so I really want to know what will happen to these people's psyches if this run gains any sort of momentum.

His own. Trump has a massive cult of personality & once the more orthodox republican voters discover he is popular again they will jump on the Trump band wagon again. He is pretty much the only Republican nominee that has a chance at a national level anyways. It's not like the Republicans have particularly strong branding or candidates to take on the Democrats at a meaningful level anyways.

if their best candidate is the man who lost the popular vote twice, was impeached twice, tried to incite a mob to kill congress and the vice president, and sold nuclear documents to saudi arabia, then i don't believe that replublicans are going to be around for much longer

An economic downturn near the election can ruin anyone's chances of winning. I don't know if any incumbent party ever won a national election in an economic downturn. It may've happened once, but it pretty much is a unicorn. A lot of elections come down to the luck of the economic draw aka, "it's the economy stupid."

They'll be around for as long as there are people willing to vote for them in spite of such shortcomings, which is sadly still very true. The country will fall apart before people stop voting for their favourite team no matter what they do.

while there would be no doubt serious damage To America and the worlds perception of America and our allies ability to rely on our long standing relationships and alliances if trump got back in I cant help but thinking de Santis is even more dangerous.
like trump he has demonstrated similar characteristics and extreme actions and to a degree to satisfy his own ego, but unlike trump he is not a complete moron (quite the opposite) and would be capable of making good on extreme actions trump could not.

Pretty much this. He said he was never going over to Twitter even if he was reinstated. I guess he wants build up his Truthsocial platform, although no one is going to bother going over there, so it will greatly limit his reach. I mean if most people are too lazy to create a Spotify account to listen to Rogan, they certainly aren't going to create a Truthsocial account to listen to Trumps ramblings in a conservative eco chamber.

And also spent $12 million to ship 50 legal immigrants to New Hampshire to make what he seemed to think was a good point.

Why would it matter if he's free? The constitution doesn't explicitly say someone in prison cannot be president and the supreme court hasn't decided if someone in jail is barred from being president. As long as he isn't found guilty of something like treason (very unlikely he would be found guilty for that), he's likely free to run.
