As the movie is releasing, lets use this topic to discuss it.

I just watched it and really dug it. Did what it could with the hand it was given, probably a top 10 mcu for me

Some random thoughts I had:

-Everything to do with Talocan was cool, the look of the place, the people designs, the backstory
-Namor got a good enough start, not perfect but solid, glad he wasn't a one movie villain. I do think he can lead his own movie
-Shuri is a good step in temporary panther/lead
-Every Mbaku scene was great but there wasn't enough. wongs been oversaturated, Mbaku is now the go to comedy guy, his reaction to seeing talocan's riding a killer whale is priceless
-The movie isn't as good as the first one, simply because tchalla is better than shuri and killmonger is better than namor
-Okoye was awesome
-Maybe the best post credit scene since Mysterio revealed spidermans identity through J Jonah Jameson (I do think moon knight and ms marvel had some good post credit scenes as well). They have figured out the T"challa recast in the best way since re-casting him was so heavily mixed
-Aren't all talocans mutants, only the originals used herbs but the rest are born as water people.
-This is like the third marvel movie in a row where they throw in gay representation in the minimal way. Either ignore it or put some depth to it
-Riri williams is literally america chavez, in character and in her function to the story
-Some scenes were kind of dark, too hard to see
-In a good way this feels like it is in a different world from she-hulk/thor love and thunder. 2 titles that I didnt hate and had some fun with but maybe did more damage to the MCU
It's funny how everyone who ate the heart shaped herb saw loved ones but shuri saw killmonger, someone who she had more dialogue with after he died
-I think spiderman nwh and shang chi top it but it's a good third best entry in phase 4
-definitely could have trimmed something, reminds me of the batman, even though I enjoyed it, I wouldn't watch it again because it's so long and doesn't need to be
-the val/thunderbolts vs wakanda (and talocan?) should be interesting
-People who wanted to watch this for dr doom rumors took an L

Oh.

So unless there's a timeskip again at some point that seems kinda pointless and we're still stuck with Antivax Panther.

I mean the mcu slate is sort of announced until 2026 and it took 4 years to get a second black panther. So a time skip may not be needed since mcu timeline sort of follows real time

Based on nothing but my own ass. Youll get a sequel with anti vax panther and bp4 might have tchalla 2.0 lead the way

I just saw it in an empty theater. First time Ive ever seen a movie by myself in a theater, and it was for what will surely be the biggest movie this weekend by far.

I had the day off, and during the times I wanted to see it, my theater had showings at 3:00, 3:15, 3:20, 3:30, and 3:45. Maybe it was just because it was at an odd time that wasnt on a quarter hour, but the 3:20 show was empty except for me, while the other showings were basically sold out. Weird as hell.

Anyway, good movie. Very long, but it used the time very well to really build the characters and tell a good story (unlike The Batman, IMO, which was about as long, but felt like it could have been greatly reduced in time). It also felt like they developed a lot for future films and Avengers movies.

Oh, and the Marvel animation to start the movie with nothing but Bossman scenes was fantastic. Gave me goosebumps.

Good point. Though I do think Mbaku has a different god. He has hanuman where as the wakandans have bast...so he'd become the black ape which might be problematic

Also like thr hawkeye show didnt convince me I need an echo show, this did not convince me I need a Riri show. My mind can change when they come out and I didnt even hate riri but wasnt blown away either

Watched it last night in IMAX

I really enjoyed it. LOVED the tone of it first and foremost and it really helped make the movie feel like a fresh Marvel experience. Some great acting chops on display. Audio and visuals were top notch.

The action could've been better to really put this in the upper echelon of Marvel movies but it was OK. I feel like it made up for it in other areas.

Will catch up on posts after this

tbh I went in not that excited and left feeling the same. I didnt exactly love Shuri in BP and that kinda stuck with me throughout the movie. As a memorial to Chadwick its good. But everything else fell pretty flat to me

A lot of the plot lines just kinda felt like they only got half progressed by the end. Ross plot line felt like a tease for other projects.

I also didnt really get why Namor jumped from we want to hide under the ocean to lets destroy everything. They have Vibranium and he constantly stated Talokan was far stronger than even Wakonda. Why would he even care about the humans.

My MCU progress thoughts. Namor was a mutant and had active abilities. Ms Marvel spoilers Kamala had the X gene but it wasnt yet active. At the start of the movie the French UN Ambassador said she thought Vibranium could be used as a nuclear device.

I reckon Namors contact with Vibranium as a baby activated his powers and that someone will make a Vibranium bomb later and this will lead to mutant activation.

Biggest missed opportunity of the movie having Riri captured in a cave and not giving her a box of scraps

I think my main issue is Shuri is a tech genius and didnt care for tradition. So when she became BP I expected her to incorporate that into her style. So either just make a bunch of Black Panthers because why just have 1 or use more tech in her fighting style. She did have the sonic gun in her suit. But that got destroyed fairly quickly and then she just switched to fighting exactly the same as TChalla

Vibranium is what makes them strong, and they consider the underwater Vibranium to be theirs. So long as the humans couldnt detect Vibranium or only knew of its existence in Wakanda, then Talokan would remain hidden and safe. But humans are bound to be treacherous, and will try to ransack other countries for their natural resources (which was the why a covert mission attempted to steal Vibranium from Wakanda near the start of the movie - to get that point across).

Once humanity invented a means to detect Vibranium, it became a game changer. Humanity would eventually discover Talokan and come for their Vibranium. This is the thought process of Namor, and why he wanted to suddenly lead a preemptive war against humanity.

All well and good. But the only two countries on the planet with Vibranium were Talokan and Wakanda. He jumps from kill the scientist to lets destroy everything pretty quickly.

Especially given at the end of the movie its shown that Talokan would easily get rid of Wakanda if they needed to. If Namor didnt surrender Shuris plan would have gotten everyone killed. So if even Wakanda doesnt pose that much of a threat to Talokan why does he even care about the rest of the humans since they are considered children when compared with Wakanda

the attempt on Wakandas vibranium was mostly considered a joke by Wakanda. And the attempt on the underwater Vibranium was even less successful

I think Namor's concern was less about if they could win a war against humanity (which they most certainly could) and more about keeping the existence of Talokan a secret. Remember, not everybody in the city is a soldier.

I just got out of the theater after seeing it. I don't really like Shuri even as a temporary BP. I don't think she can carry the mantle and it felt like the movie would have been way better with T'Challa. They kept talking about him the whole time too which just felt like they were rubbing it in that they're not recasting him. Okoye and M'baku were the best parts of the movie. I did end up liking Namor a lot more than I thought I would and the scene exploring Talokan was pretty sweet.

I thought it was great!

More somber than I thought, even with expectations set, though.

The first 10 minutes was basically a horror movie, and I liked that. Way to establish mood and tone apart from Aquaman!

The visuals were great, the action was good, and it ended satisfyingly.

I'm only left with What Ifs(lol) about the movie we could have got if Chadwick Boseman were still alive :(

Tchallas reign as king:

-Father who is king gets killed in front of him while he is superpowered
-Almost kills the wrong guy but spares the right guy
-Comes home gets crowned king
-Same week or so his long lost cousin shows up, reveals his father murdered his own brother, kills (in the eyes of the people) T'challa and becomes king
-Tchalla is found, brought back and takes back his kingdom from his cousin (kills the king) while a massive civil war happens
-secretly gets his gf pregnant and has a baby who is far away from his kingdom
-Some weeks after the civil war, wakanda is attacked by aliens. Thanos arrives and kills half of all life including tchalla (but not his son who grows up without his dad). Nakia must not have been snapped so she already had tchalla die twice on her (once by killmonger, once by thanos)

I feel like they were using his dying from cancer irl as why he died in universe. They even mentioned how he didn't tell anyone and suffered in silence until he went to Shuri and asked for help but it was too late by then. It's gonna be overlooked but I feel like Disney got butthurt he didn't tell them so they had to add that part.
