...at the same time I really just want to grab my controller and launch a game without having to walk over to the system and put in a disc to start. I envy that and I can't reconcile it.

Who's worried about disc rot with Blu-Ray discs?

When games are in a digital list I'm more likely to forget they exist, while something on the shelf makes me want to play it more.

Also certain companies are releasing disc versions with no data on it other than the key to play. Where you still need to download the game despite having the disc.

This is something I predicted happening a long time ago.

Just think how cheap it would be to produce games on CDs that just have a 5MB download token on them!

I hate all the clutter that comes with physical games. I dont want shit on a shelf or boxes or any of the mess. Way more convenient to just turn the system on.

The ideal middle ground between physical and digital is a USB stick or SD card that comes with everything and no DRM

I'm getting to the point where digital > physical. It's nice just picking up and playing and it saves so much room. I'm over having a video game "collection".

Tbh I never thought was a big deal switching out games manually but ever since I went all digital a few years ago I don't think I can ever go back to physical media. It's more than just not getting up off the couch, I like having all my games available in a convenient, organized menu

I'm even starting to prefer digitizing my retro game systems for the same reason (no more buying games or burning discs), although the unreasonable pricing for older games also contributes to that (I just want to play games more than own them at the end of the day, even though some would be worth owning, so I'll just settle for playing them by other means).

I believe the newest Modern Warfare did that as well. The Blu Ray has like 700 MB worth of data on it and you have to do a 100+ GB install

I think that's what he was referring to.

I went digital for that but that was more down to the fact I wanted to have the game in both of my residences without having to remember to bring a disc with me.

Same. Prices of retro games are absurd right now. Let the collectors enjoy their physical carts.
