We aren't becoming crazy, there's always been pessimists like that and the envious and jealous, they're just more visible on Twitter. The 300k likes plainly demonstrates that tweet on the whole was very positively received and people were happy for them.

The problem is that internet literacy is not an intuitive skill, isn't taught in school (and never had a chance to be for older folk and even millenials), and is sabotaged by social media companies that want to increase view retention.

Thats part of it

Its about how internet culture is a literal insane world without consequences. Its real human beings interacting in a space where they can say the shittiest things out of context and because theres no social norms to keep a healthy balance. We are further and further going down a toxic, awful path.

And because the internet is woven into our entire social fabric now, its not just relegated to oh well its just the internet, deal with it.

You also have to consider how many people tweeted those uh interesting replies, not because they truly believed them but because they knew they would generate controversy and engagement.

Likewise on CE, I imagine a great majority of the underlying reasoning behind what gets posted is simply to stir shit and get people to either reply to your posts and/or quote you.

I agree with what the guy said. The way people communicate with each other online is just so bizarre, there's a part of me who hopes that basically everyone online is just fucking around and don't really mean the things they say.

So did those people get a bunch of likes and retweets or something? I think it's best to just ignore those people, both online and irl. Haters gon hate, but I can't relate. I don't live in a world of negativity.

I do think the 2nd one was a troll tho, and kinda funny.

I think its getting to the point where its so common and wide spread, and bleeding into real life that this isnt haters gonna hate and a simple thing to ignore. We have to change. We gotta be better.

Have there been any actual studies done on the (possible) mental illness that leads to people acting like total shitbags on the internet? I truly dont mean that in an insulting way, but theres no way that people who do stuff like that are completely mentally well, and I feel like that would be a very interesting read.

I just looked through hundreds or thousands of comments under a couple of elon musks' posts. I've tried to avoid them for so long but was tempted today after going down a rabbit hole. I see why this board hates Twitter so much now. Easy to find so many users that appear to lack empathy over there

I've managed to avoid most of that negativity by only seeking out hobby related posts.
