I'm starting to get addicted to this series.

Dawn of Ys, but Oath in Felghana is real good too. havent played Celceta or VII/VIII/IX.

None, Ys sucks.

I liked Celceta the best, but that's the only one I finished besides I & II Chronicles. Playing through VIII now.

I go back and forth between VIII and Origin, which are both very good for very different reasons.

I've only played VIII, Celceta and IX

I've only played Seven and VIII, but VIII wins by a decent amount.

II > I > Felghana >> Origin

Play 1&2 first to get a proper introduction to Adol and the world of Ys, but then you can pretty much jump around to any point in the series after that

Although I'd recommend saving Ys IX until after you've played a fair share of them as it references almost all of them

8 > 9 > Origin > 2 > 1 > Celceta > Felghana

Just playing 8 is the likeliest to make you like the series I think. Most of them are pretty solid tho, IMO.

8 but 9 is right there with it

Lacrimosa is one of the best games ever made in my humble opinion. The rest are merely 80-89/100s. Solid games.

Well Origin is probably in the 90s+ realm too.

Adol is at his best when he goes solo. Give me the PS2 version of Ark of Napishtim over the rest of these. Too bad you never played it.

Oh my. Ark of Napishtim was definitely a 90+ game. My first ever Ys. Set the cornerstone for me to try most of these other Ys games. I didnt notice there was an other option in the poll.

I, um, DID put Ark of Napishtim in the poll. I just did release order, so it's the second option before the 3 and 4 remakes.

I thought about putting chronological story order, but Origin would be first and Celceta would be before 6 and 7 and I thought that was too screwy.

8, because the setting and plot lended itself to a near perfect drip feed of exploration. You're invested in getting Adol, Dogi, and so many others off that fucking island, just for the proper plot to seep in as it needs to. Add in a crafting system that geared itself towards the setting organically, and some awesome music (by a series that already boasts serious cred as is), and VIII was just magical.

Outside of Persona 5, it was my favorite game last decade.

No love for Ys III ever, it seems. It was my first Ys game so I had no idea until later that it was the black sheep of the series. Still, Ys 6 is top notch.

Which one? Also I'm fairly sure 5 is more of a black sheep. At least, having played it a little, it probably should be.
Isn't the PC version of Ys VI supposed to be the best? I remember people using fan patches to play it in English instead of the PS2 version.
