Conquest mode in SC 2 arcade is a high-water mark.

I love the series but yeah it seems dead. I bought the one that came out like in 2019 and was like ehh

I got into the series because of Link in SC II. I've bought and played each one since, except for the PSP one. Soul Calibur II was the shit.

Anyways, didn't the guy that pushed hard to get SC VI made get fired? It was something like the higher-ups didn't want to make anymore after SC V was a bust, and he was the only reason they changed their minds because he kept fighting for it. I don't see them caring again.

Kinda surprised ngl. I didn't take to SC despite getting SC2 for Link myself. Also mained Talim. Used to use Voldo to troll and then started playing him unironically, but I never bought back into the series. It's just something I'd play if it was there.

Are you a "YOU'RE. QUITE. THE RUDE ONE." kinda guy or a "WELl then, lET us DANCE" guy?

Definitely the second.

Damn it, now I feel like playing SC again. SC5 isn't backwards compatible on XB1 and I'd have to dig out the 360 for that, so it's either SC2 HD or SC6.

A shame Soul Calibur seems dead. It perhaps the most intuitive fighting game besides Smash Bros. The horizontal attack, vertical attack, and sidestepping system is fairly easy to understand and makes logical sense (for a videogame). I never really get a "what the fuck is happening right now" feeling while playing it.

A shame, because I definitely do prefer Soul Calibur over Tekken, and I had a lot more fun with the series in general. When I get a PS5, I'll most likely pick up SC6.

I seriously doubt the Zelda fans that bought Soul Cal solely because of Link were gonna become Soul Cal fans. I just don't see it. Idk.
I did. I never even heard of Soul Calibur until I saw the ads with Link in SC2.

SC6 was only good but not great and mediocre in various ways compared previous SC games. If the series ended with SC6 I wouldn't be upset because Banzai Namco clearly isn't trying as much any more. I say that as someone who grew up with the SC series and loved it.

Technically 3, but 2 was less buggy and had better character balance. So that along with 2 being the first SC game to have cameo characters made it the fan favorite.

I only found out a few months ago that Inferno's move where he uppercuts you, grabs you and goes spiralling off into the sky with you existed. It's the coolest thing ever.
For some reason back in SC2 he always did the one where he jumped up in the air, flailed around and lunged at you. Never used his unique grab either.

That's why I love it too. The game is easy to pick up and play because of the simple controls and inputs that are basically universal across the whole cast, but it's also tough to master because of the movement and dodging, figuring out combos and attack timings, and the extra mechanics on the side like parrying. In a game like Smash Bros or Soul Calibur, once you learn the fundamentals, you can pick up and play pretty much any character in the game at least at a basic level, though obviously you would put in more work to master the characters you like.

In some other fighting games, you have to spend several hours in training mode learning a character and the bunch of complicated inputs in their moveset before you feel comfortable actually playing with them, and then a lot of those skills and inputs you learned barely transfer over to the rest of the cast. It's like you have to relearn how to play the entire game from scratch every time you want to learn a new character.

Hard to believe that the Soul Calibur series had cameos from Tekken, The Legend of Zelda, Spawn, Xenosaga(SC3 custom character costume), Tales of, Star Wars, God of War, Assassin's Creed, The Witcher, Nier and Samurai Showdown throughout the years. What a amazing series.
