FE6 bosses are notoriously frustrating to deal with. They tend to be durable and fast and thrones/gates give a lot of avoid in a game with low hit rates on weapons, meaning you are basically forced into sitting around waiting for the RNG to work out. On hard mode you have bosses that you're lucky to even get to 70 displayed hit on (hell, one where even breaking 50 is somewhat rare)

On average I'm getting 30-50 hit on them now!

That's the exact reason Rutger is one of the best units in the game, despite being unmounted and swordlocked. He's like the only guy who can reliably kill bosses in the first half of the game.

Rutger was sitting at like 2 damage himself :/

I NEVER stick with the Felix type. Shadow Dragon reinforced that hard-core. I never have any luck with them!

Swordmaster gets +30 crit in Binding Blade, so the typical strategy for dealing with bosses is to promote Rutger at level 10 and let him go nuts with the Killing Edge (Armorslayer for the chapter 8 boss). Berserker also gets +30 crit but good luck hitting anything with high avoid with an axe.

Zealot (Jerrot?) can also help out in a pinch for at least a few chapters before he falls off.

Absolutely stupendous chapter 9 run.

Promoted 3 UNITS on this map. Saul and Thany from the get go...and then Fir. I fed like 15 PIRATES to Fir, she went from level 1 to 10 while standing still in the same spot.

I'm pretty sure I chose the route that's going to give me the female Hero and the handsome Pirate dude, both of which I'm intending to use for now.

Still not sure about Shin vs Sue. Everything about their sheets tells me Sue..except that Strength Stat... Being a dull rank and bows is hard to give up, though

Shin is better but mostly on hard mode where he gets hard mode bonuses.

You could also use them both a lot for the real FE6 experience

Just spent like 2 hours on chapter 11 to find a way to save all the villages. THIS GAME.

I didn't get the whip but I got the bolt and the Hero Crest.

What a NIGHTMARE. I mean if you don't want the stuff it's an easy map, but if you do, OOOOF.

Oh man, if you're underwhelmed by Rutger's damage output, Fir is going to drive you crazy.

Oh I had no problem with Rutger's damage, he was very powerful!

I just wanted to use Fir lol.

The Myr who actually let me down hard was Navarre.

Once you close the level gap - apparently not a concern for UshiromiyaEva - Rutger struggles to average a full point of Strength over Fir. So, I wouldn't expect that to be a deal breaker. (Unless the RNG is particularly unkind to her, of course.)

I'm mid battle so I can see Rutger, but current as a level 4 Swordmaster Fir has 11 strength. She's had no problem slaughtering thus far..

It sounds like you're using the ancient translation patch instead of the newer one that updates names/terminology to be consistent with later games and Heroes and such

Whoever made the new patch did a terrible job of advertising it, since every time I see someone play FE6, it's with the old patch.

I didn't realize that the new patch itself is 9 years old! (Its initial release that is)

Oh, lol, yeah I didn't have any idea! With FE12 I had to actually patch the game manually from Serenes, bybwith FE6 I just found it.

Doesn't look like there's anything too devastating in the old one here at least.

They really did Cecilia dirty with that join chapter. She probably has the worst first impression of any decent unit in the series.

I trained Sophia up to speed with the rest of my units on this chapter. Do not recommend.

It's genuinely a shock how terrible Allen has turned out.

I think I get a Knight Crest soon, and I've still been leveling Lance, so I'm hopping he pops off here. Could always just use this new Paladin I'm getting soon I suppose, I imagine he has good weapon levels at least.

The paladin you're about to get is worth using even if Allen was good, so sounds like you have a perfect spot for him.

....Hmmm, wonder how this Sniper compares to Klein, too...

FE6 promotion items are, shall we say, poorly distributed. If you're thoroughly vexed, there is a Secret Shop which can help...

Now that I have this Knight Crest, which seeing Percival's weapon levels I probably won't bother using anyways, I'm all set for promotions!

So Klein does have the better growths, but Igrene's bases are way better...

Klein's biggest advantage is that he's a lot closer to being able to use the S rank bow than Igrene is. But if you were just planning on giving it to Sue anyway, that shouldn't be a concern.

If Saul has the staff rank and magic for it, I'd suggest just warp skipping this one.

My warp staff is spent.

However, I'm reattempting now and Berserking the bolting enemies, fun times!

CRUSHED IT THAT TIME.

Berserking the Bolt mage was absolute perfection. He eliminated a bunch of troublesome units at the top and spent all his ammo, left to just watch in horror from his little perch.

...Now how the fuck am I supposed to get any of these people to S Rank light magic??

Aircalibur mages are basically magic archers, so it counts!

And you don't get to use Aureola. There's a guy who joins later who has A rank light, and it's a pain to even get him to S rank. Probably why they had Athos randomly bring it back in FE7, so you'd actually have a chance to use it.

Theoretically I could bring a whole bunch of D rank light magic into a map with an arena and savescum Saul....

There's an arena on the next map, so knock yourself out. Also, arenas give you whatever the basic weapon of that type is, so you don't use up your weapons in them.
