Tentatively, my play order is going to be as such:

New Mystery
FE8
FE6
FE4
FE5

At this point, I may take a break, and when I come back will decide if I'm doing replays of games I haven't played in a while or if I'm checking out the Playstation stuff.

I'd suggest FE6 before FE8. FE8 has a few games worth of QoL improvements that it makes it harder to go back to FE6 afterwards.

Spent 1p minutes looking at the character creation stuff for New Mystery before settling.

Already confused myself with where this tutorial takes place because Jagen is alive, before remembering I CHOSE to have him die, lol.

Man the diologue in this sure is awkward if you pick a girl.

There's been 3 seperate "but I'm A GIRL you know" lines, and this Luke asshole's dialogue is "I'll beat you and you'll marry me!"

Frey is the canonical sacrifice but hes in New Mystery anyway. They basically just hand wave it with a they didnt actually die because it was off screen

I recall in an interview, Masahiro Sakurai said he sacrificed Jagen without a second thought lmao.

"Betrayed by our ally, war on the horizon, assasin's are sure to come from every corner...by the way, how you liking the new haircut?"

This recruitment list is fucking enormous.

I'm going to completely ignore tier lists for this one and just pick who I like (unless they're prepromote trash or something).

Just started the actual chapter 1 and already the story is popping off in an interesting way.

The music in this is a lot better too.

Yeah the FE12 avatar is uh. Infamously poorly implemented, though usually what people complain about is them stealing Marth's spotlight.

That being said I made an axefighter named Gilgamesh and he wrecked shit so all is forgiven.

FE12's soundtrack is fucking great, maybe the best in the entire series.

I feel like the soundtrack in the older games are better than the soundtrack in the newer games. I always felt the melody was just simpler and stronger.

I really REALLY love the Three Houses soundtrack. It's completely self contained and has little if anything to do with the rest of the franchise other than some slight refs. As it's own thing it's one of my favorite OSTs.

But Fire Emblem OSTs typically are very different than what's in there. It doesn't even have a Recruit variant! Together, We Ride IS Fire Emblem.

I'm very impressed with this OST so far. I have considered looking up tracks on Youtube multiple times but did not want to spoil myself.

Just finished chapter 1 and yeah...a real plot! Characters, story! I didn't even USE Hardin in Shadow Dragon.

Naw I reloaded that save, I just had to see it lol.

I went HARD leveling these kids in chapter 4, if someone is super plot relevant you be in gonna use them. Managed to get them both to 5.

IIRC you get a chance to reverse any new hairstyle after one chapter with it, so I took all of them.

This topic inspired me to give FE1 on Switch a shot. It kinda sucks! But it's appealing in a weird, NES game way.

Now that I am on this Camp screen, Jubelo is fucking AWFUL. There's no way I can use this kid.

I think the sister (...Yumina?) is supposedly not good either but she turned out fine for me.

I like to appreciate all the weird things in FE1 to see how far the series has come. Did you know that Myrmidons and Swordmasters didn't exist until FE4? Navarre was just a Swordfighter, just like Ogma. Several classes just cannot promote. Clerics only gained EXP by getting hit.

I don't know if they changed it in this one, but Yumina was useful in the original game since she had exclusive use of Rescue.

Honestly myrmidoms and mercenaries are still the same class in everything but flavor so I don't mind that part.

Clerics not getting EXP is just baffling though. Recruited Wendell last night and started passing his items to Lena before going "wtf am I doing" and benching Lena immediately

Cecil has gained a point in speed and skill literally every level up to 9, and barely anything in strength, HP, and defence. I feel like a reclass to Myrmidom is the only option here!

Thats true for dancers in most FE games.

I haven't been commenting as much because I've been stramrolling. I'm pretty engaged in this! On 10x now.

But yeah some of this Avatar stuff is embarrasing. Much worse if you're playing as a girl.

Well it was the first time they ever did it and at the very least it facilitates the base convos, which are a very welcome addition. For sure not great though.

Just forget that Phina has a sword. There's never any situation where she should ever be using that thing.

Malice is so cool. She and Athena were my go-to sword girls.

I'd use her if I myself weren't already a Myr.

These Wyverns sure are something else.

Something I've noticed consistently in this game, and maybe this is a normal mode thing, but...enemy ranged units seem like they always go after ally ranged units that can counterattack them? Like it's set up to make sure you CAN counterattack.

Enemy AI in the two games on DS prioritize doing damage above basically all else (they also essentially assume they will always crit on anyone they have a 2% chance to crit). With bow/magic units generally having lower defenses, they will tend to attract a lot of attacks because the AI doesn't really care about what you can or can't do to it in retaliation, they only care that they can do more damage than they could to anyone else.

Clarisse is such an underrated villain. Definitely my favorite FE12 original character.

Been going hard , almost done! Just finished chapter 22 on my lunch break, will save my thoughts for when I finish these last couple chapters.

I loved New Mystery if the Emblem.

It's not, like...perfect. It's really easy to break with the drill grounds. I do like how free it is for an FE game though, you can do just about anything (save for the locked male class tiers, though from what I understand you can unlock them on hard?)

I think it does put its best foot forward, the sorry is pretty intruiging for those first few hours, but it does start to peter off into pretty standard stuff once the initial setup is done.

The music stayed great (that Hardin battle theme tho), and the maps were still mostly excellent, though there were understandabley some repeats from the last game, which stands out more when they have the same gimmick some of the times too.

With how similar it is to FE11, there's not really that much to say, and it's slotting right above it.

I hear Roy is the WORST LORD by far and is basically dead weight. We'll see!

But Roy's like high-tier in Smash Ultimate! The thing that makes him "dead weight" is pretty much bad game design.

I actually played through New Mystery of the Emblem back to prepare for Awakening, and I really like it as well. Man, to think that's already been around a decade.

Roy is pretty standard sword infantry, but he promotes super late (mechanic spoilers, not story).

Glad you liked FE12! It's one of my favorite FE games.

FE6 is a game where sword infantry is pretty useless, except for one huge exception. And that's because his stats are so busted it makes up for him being sword infantry.

Other than the Avatar the FE12 exclusive story characters were the most interesting. Probably because they had to do them from scratch I assume! Clarrise was ROBBED.

2 chapters in. The nostalgia is helping me get through a lot of the QoL loss, like seeing all enemy ranges and swapping weapons from the Calc screen.

I think what's going to be toughest though is the experience distribution. I'm actually really glad to be playing a game again where I can't cheese leveling as easily, and where I have a tighter roster to choose from. What I'm worried about is....I mean I KNOW I'm not going to use any of the chapter 2 mercenaries other than the Pegasus Knight, but...should I level them anyways? I don't know how long it will be until I get good units to replace them, or if I'm going to need their axes sooner rather than later. I can't just tell myself I'm gonna get 10 units over the next 3 chapters like clockwork.

Oh, also, for all the stuff I'll miss, I won't miss only the Lord being able to visit villages.

And the red haired Wyvern Knight has already been sighted, it's my personal policy to always use them!
