https://videocardz.com/newz/intel-announces-arc-a770-gpu-at-329-launches-october-12th

Performance roughly on par with the RTX 3060 Ti and close to 3070.
Intel boasts "up to" 65% better RT performance than the 3060 Ti.

That's quite a competitive price - the 3060 Ti is $500 and there's currently nothing in the RTX 4000 range that is cheaper than $900.

Launches Oct 18th.

Intel actually did it - they finally are launching this thing lol.

For sure, I'd give it a few generations for Intel to work out the issues. But it's great to see a third player in this space.

We need something in the budget class, seeing as Nvidia has basically told us all to fuck off, and AMD is busy chasing them.

Intel went hard against AMD today, too. They announced Raptor Lake and made some pretty big claims. Guess we'll see if they can back it up.

Radeon 4850 was the greatest $200 card ever made IMO. It literally outperformed NVIDIA's $499 card.

For that same $329, you can buy a 6650XT or spend a little more and get a 6700XT

Why would you buy a buggy mess from Intel at that price?

@Father_ right now that is the RTX 3090 Ti. You can find them for around $1,100-$1,400 right now.

The 4090 will be releasing on October 12th and has an MSRP of $1,599. It's almost guaranteed to cost more than that after scalpers get them.

@NoxObscuras thanks! So I'm assuming the 4090 will be top of line when it comes out?

By a huge margin. It's supposedly 2x faster than the 3090 Ti

It's basically 4 slots in width. In other words, don't expect any other PCI-E device to plug into your motherboard. And several cards actually come with vertical bracing brackets because the cards are so heavy.

Any 3 + Fractional Slots is effectively 4 slots.

It's just marketing trying to weasel away from saying 4 slots.

That's why with modern Video Cards commonly using PCIe Riser cables for repositioning in many new case builds, I think most new MoBo's should move the PCIe x16 slot to the bottom of the MotherBoard, at the bottom most position.

You lose NO extra PCIe slots by doing that.

And all the extra stuff from the Video Card overhangs empty air that you can upsize your case to accomodate for.

It's a Win/Win situation IMO for long term case / mobo design that accounts for cooling.

The real solution is just to make gpus external and use a high-speed connector. But that would actually make sense, and would also make gaming laptops significantly better, so we can't have that.

I had a 4850 and had so many issues with it because of AMD's shitty drivers, especially with older games. It turned me off from ever buying AMD GPUs again.

Ill be honest Im not the most computer savvy but wouldnt have to lug around a GPU defeat the purpose of a laptop?

I hope, if nothing else, this at least convinces NVIDIA to drop the price of their 30 series cards by launch of their 40 series cards.

Like this space desperately needs more competition.

I'm not saying they couldn't still make dedicated internal gpus for laptops, I'm just saying if they made external gpus you could also use them with laptops.

You do know ASUS already did that, it's just not cheap. Also, there's still some "Janki-ness" with eGPU's.

You also don't want to use ThunderBolt, there's issues with running eGPU's on it.

A direct external PCIe connection offers MUCH better performance.

Sadly, the PC industry can't agree on which connector to use for a external PCIe connection, or if it's even worth doing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuIqlQCtZSA

ASUS external PCIe connection is proprietary sadly.
