i know nothing about western comics so it's hard for me to explain this. But I once saw a comic page where the premise was apparently the topic title, and it was an image of this huge guy in a red suit and maybe a lightning bolt on his chest flying through the air, and there was text about the new heroes having different or worse values and motivations than the people who came before them, it was a little ominous. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Kingdom Come is the prime example. Then there's also Superman & Batman Generations and Jupiter's Legacy. Both Young Justice the animated show and the original 90s comic deal with that for a bit.
