Bought a $50k truck from this dealer a couple of years ago and now ordered a $60k minivan from them three months ago (still awaiting delivery).

My truck needs regular maintenance (state inspection, oil change, tire rotation). I know that one of the loaner vehicles they got last month is one trim lower of the minivan I ordered, and since I never test drove the minivan (due to lack of stock), I wanted to drive that one around for an hour or two while theyre servicing my truck.

So I asked if I can borrow this loaner vehicle; they said they have no availability for that loaner minivan until end of October. I said I can wait until then, and they said they dont give out loaner cars for oil changes and state inspections. I said I get that, and explained why I wanted it (I ordered a car from them, they didnt have any on hand for me to test drive, etc.); they still said no.

Am I being a Karen here and just spoiled? I just want to test drive the god damn $60k minivan I ordered from a dealer I already spent $50k on my truck for.

Cancel the order and take your business elsewhere.

No, they are just a shitty dealer and you shouldn't have to put up with that after spending so much cash there. They don't appreciate you or your business so I wouldn't give them any more business unless you absolutely have to.

If you're still buying a vehicle from a dealer then yeah, it's reasonable to expect to test drive it. That's literally the only reason I'd even visit a dealer these days.

also imagine they let you take a "loaner" and you like "eww this van is poop!" then you cancel order

why would they risk this? you shouldn't have ordered it until they let you test

I couldnt test drive the minivan because they literally didnt have it. No dealerships around me had it either. I put a $500 deposit for the order, but I can cancel it prior to it being delivered for a refund of the deposit.

Now once it gets delivered, I can also just back out and not buy the car for a variety of reasons (like unable to secure a loan, for example), and still get my money back.

So I COULD test drive my exact minivan, say this sucks, and just not buy it anyway.

I'd cancel and go elsewhere, if you gave them $110 grand and are being sticklers over letting you drive a loaner, fuck them.

I wouldn't call that treating you like trash. They have the loaner for specific uses and you were trying to drive it around for an hour or two. They have no reason to agree to that.

And if you haven't actually bought the minivan yet, just put a deposit, then wouldn't you just be able to test drive it after the dealer gets it in stock?

Hes already waited 3 months for delivery though? I can understand them saying no if they had one in stock and he wanted to test the loaner instead of the one he bought.

You're in the right. Its true theres no loaners for oil changes and tire rotations but if you simply explain you want a test drive then they should let you. Especially if you're loyal to the brand. One of my buddies has 3 audi's in his family, him, his brother, his dad....he simply tells them that and they hook him up with free stuff all the time. He's probably saved thousands of dollars just by asking and explaining how he's loyal to the brand.

I mean he isnt entirely in the right given that a loaner car probably has milage on it from use so that would impact the point of a test drive (not to mention if the vehicles are different models)

My wife works for a BMW service center and complains about people like you. You are expecting preferential treatment cause you gave them business. Loaners shouldnt be given out so easily cause someone will come along with an actual need. You already have the truck

Every dealer is different and responds different. My family has been like 5 cars deep with a dealer and they've gone from being reasonable to deal with, to I'm 99% done with them after this lease.

TC may have had fair reasons to ask for a loaner, but the dealer never owes it to him. Quite frankly, they have all the leverage here. TC can say he waited 3 months, but that dealer could give less than a shit and let someone else have that allocation if TC tries to walk away.

My car before the truck was a Lexus, and their service level expectations has gotten me spoiled, I guess. They would hand out loaners for anything; even if I was there to pick up a part.

"Treated like trash" is definitely an exaggeration but they should have let him drive it for a bit given the amount of money he is planning to give them (as long as it's not currently in use). Treating people like valued customers instead of dollar signs goes a long way. Cancel the order and buy from somewhere else imo.

I drive a Blacked out 2022 Ford Raptor lmao. I would never blow 60k on a minivan unless I was for purely commercial reasons.

It's a Chrysler dealership, they're all trash

Last four vehicles were brand new Chrysler products because our credit sucked and they lease with low payments to basically anyone with a pulse. Won't ever get anything from them again, both dealerships were full of assholes and 3/4 of the vehicles were hot garbage.

Spending a lot of money doesnt entitle you to get everything you want.

Yeah I'd cancel that and go with a Toyota for sure. Doesn't get much worse than Chrysler.

You do sound very spoiled right now.
If their loaner is fully booked for weeks out, it will likely be fully booked after as well.
They can't give a loaner for 1 hour, take it back, clean/detail it (at least an hour), then Get it to the next person (probably late, which they now have to deal with).

They have a single loaner to give, and other people with actual priority.

Check out the Kia Carnival btw, you'll have to wait a few months to get one but the higher trims are really fucking nice and it looks more like an SUV with sliding doors than a minivan.

No hybrid option though yet AFAIK.
