Current Events > Yugioh's Pendulum era had the best archetypes

DM era had relatively few archetypes, and the few decent ones didn't see good support until much later. (Except maybe Gravekeepers since Necrovalley is nuts).

GX had Heroes and Cyberdragons, everything else was kinda meh.

5Ds was just 6-hour-long turns summoning trash robots that turned into Dragons.

Literally nobody cares about anything that came out of the Zexal era. What the fuck is a Gagaga.

But then Konami, in their infinite power and wisdom, created card game kino with Pendulums.

Odd-Eyes! Pendulum Magicians! Performapals! Performages! Fluffals! Melodious! Yosenju! Raidraptor! Phantom Knights! It was a non-stop win streak of the coolest shit imaginable.

...then Vrains happened.

Zoodiacs and Ultra Athletes both came out during the Pendulum era and are both really cool archetypes too.

i'd rather have xyz + quadratic formula x e=mc2 monsters

gagaga's really should be better since they have access to a wide variety of xyz rank monsters yet they suck

melodious got shafted to. they are from the pendulum era and yet dont have a pendulum card (they got a link monster though)
and poor yuzu went from being an awesome character to being a character you could have replaced with a lamp and nothing would change

the vrains anime had some good archetypes and almost all the supporting cast had their archetypes be real life meta for a bit

I wasnt really playing much while Zoodiacs were introduced but I remember feeling annoyed that they ignored the defining gimmick of Xyz monsters. >_> Nowadays I only know them as a package for getting out Zeus lol.

Yeah I really love the idea of being able to jank out generic Xyz of almost any rank but.... >__>

Synchron, BWs, Plants, Resonators, and Infernity are better than anything Arc V did. Performapals are ugly as shit and everything else was forgettable. Vrains era and current era are also top tier.

Bro, Full power Zoo was straight up cancerous. The game was slower especially because Links didnt have exist but it was really bad. They were close to if not already a Tier 0 deck. Its what made me stop playing paper Yugioh to be honest. Everyone just power creeped with Zoo

The zexel Era priotized individual ace monsters with decks and archetypes built around them rather the archetypes as a whole. Mostly due to how splashable most XYZ monsters were at the time.

Kinda glad I missed that then. Im not usually a fan of single ace monsters being the bulk of the gameplay. Incidentally, Bujins are one of my least favorite archetypes. <_<

the series notoriously treats its female characters bad
wiomen can win duels if they are against joke characters, other women, or if the woman winning the duel is evil.

the 2 best female female characters were akiza and yuzu and both suffered the same fate of being amazing in their series first half and then being completely useless in the second half.

but yugioh sevens and go rush got new writers and they actually treat their female characters well
romin the female lead of sevens actually became the first female character in the franchise to

beat a main male character in a serious duel where he didnt misplay or have a disadvantage
beat the actual main character in a fair duel (yuzu beat the main guy in arc V but it was done as a joke)
and beat the kaiba type character in a duel

no female lead had ever accomplished anything like that before

Hippo is a perfect example of what makes the archetype so ugly. At least he had Pend Magicians to fall back on.

zexal actually treated its female characters the worst
only 2 duels in all of zexal were won by a woman
and both times it was a girl vs girl duel so a girl had to be the winner.

everytime yuma tag teamed with a female character she would lose the duel and he would have to win on his own

dextra's archetype was never even finished
butterspy needs real life support :(

The first half of zexel is pretty bad but the latter half had some of the best, most emotional moment's and duels of the series in my opinion.

And at least in the anime I prefer the Ace monster focus. Gives MCs decks more identity and consistency compared Yiya and yusaku.

XZYs arent as good as they used to be sadly.

The thing that I love most about the Arc-V era, is that it also brought a bunch of support for the older archetypes. Those BLS Super Solder cards actually made ritual decks actually cool beyond Nekroz & Gishki.
