I'm probably ignorant on the topic, bit i don't think i understand the difference between Bi and a Pan.

Like what kind of person would a Pan be into that a Bi would'nt?

To me, its being more actively inclusive of those outside 'the standard binary'

Thanks for the link. I am reading and I am still confused. I follow a Bi-sexual person on twitter and she was getting in heated debate over this.

It's basically being open about willing to date trans, non binary, asexual etc people. Not that people who identify as bi can't. You're just making it clear by identifying as pansexual.

That's the general idea but the rolling stone article explains it much better, if anyone is legitimately interested.

I personally take offense at the implication that bi ppl are somehow transphobic. I think it was exacerbated by online trolls too. I prefer the term bi because everyone already knows what it means (sort of) and that's the main purpose of language.

Ultimately, just don't sweat it. No one owns the words bi or pan so don't listen to anyone who claims to have clear cut differentiations of the terms. People use them differently.

Traditionally, pan was, as mentioned, used to show support for trans ppl, but pls don't think someone who identifies as "bi" is transphobic.

to put my two cents in the whole bi vs pan debate...

i always got the impression that it's less about dating transpeople/non-binary and more about how preferences are handled

like pan people (at least the ones i know) state that gender doesn't matter at all and that whoever is attractive, is attractive to them.

while i, identifying, as bi, have gendered preferences. like preferring women/fem people slightly over men/masc people, something like that

but i guess it really doesn't matter one way or another, idk that's just how i personally understand it and could be wrong

If you're telling people to shut up about Pride when people are being suppressed or killed for being LGBT in other countries... no.

overly-sexualizing bisexuality because it makes you uncomfortable. straight ppl and gay people get to proudly talk about their partners, but when bisexuality comes up it's that we should just shut the fuck up about it.

you'll perceive us as gay or straight, but that's not who we are. you're forcing people into a closet, and that makes ppl depressed and suicidal.

that is an alternative interpretation, but it's not the only one.

im also pan. i am "gender-blind" but have high standards? everyone's different.

i dont think bi/pan ppl are required to even justify or explain their preferences, types, fetishes, likes, dislikes, any more than anyone else. having gendered preferences does not make you less pansexual. if you want to claim pan in addition to bi, or vice versa, you can do that do (lot's of people do, including me, a person u know on the internet).

but if im wearing a flag it's blue, purple, pink. id also wear a pan flag, but if i ONLY had to choose one... i just like the word bisexual better than pansexual.

your "ratio" doesn't matter. you don't owe society anything.

Pansexuality is sexual, romantic, or emotional attraction towards people regardless of their sex or gender identity.
Bisexuality is being sexually attracted not exclusively to people of one particular gender; attracted to both men and women.

remind me that some people claim only pan because they aren't sexually attracted to both genders but would have romantic interactions with them.

"regardless of" vs "attracted to both" ...which do you want to foreground? can play semantics but if this was about anything else we would 100% say these statements are equivalent.
