Here's the real story. Some guy who isn't that good beat the best chess player in the world. No.1 guy threw a tanty. Elon Musk said some insane shit on twitter as per. That's it.

Tbh it seems like there was a lot of money on this Magnus guy, either through bets or sponsors, and now they're trying really hard to paint the other guy as a cheater. Pretty scummy.

He's admitted to cheating in online games because he couldn't be bothered to move through the low ranks. He's not admitted to or been caught cheating in in person games.

Not that I put any stock into this happening, but I believe the vibrating anal beads would be used like Morse code. The person in control of them would then telegraph to the wearer what moves to make, utilizing computer programs, artificial intelligence, and large amounts of data to give a better idea of what your opponent is doing and how to counter them.

That's just off the top of my head though.

This one guy (I forget his name) made a device that vibrates in morse code. He put it in his shoe and used it to beat his friends in chess.

there is a huge difference between cheating in a ranked based game and cheating in an tournament with a cash prize.

furthermore, once you admit to cheating you lose all your credibility when it comes to competing. People in other organizations/sports/etc wouldve preemptively banned him on that admission alone.

Probably wouldn't let him compete, shrug.

I don't think the anal beads "theory" is true, but there are ways of cheating at in-person tournaments.

The big thing is that Magnus isn't just good at chess. He's on a whole different level. He has devoted thousands of hours to studying specific openings and sequences of moves (called lines) and famous chess players that have played those lines.

The particular game he played used a line he personally only ever played one time in his history, and this is the line that his opponent not only knew how to counter, but did so with the precision of a modern chess engine.

The likelihood that this was a legitimate outcome is very low, beyond what even random probability would have.

I'm not even a casual chess player, but I read more into this out of math curiosity and some statisticians are saying that this kind of game mirrors a 3100 elo player.

Well, for me personally, thats not enough evidence to say he cheated in this instance

if he somehow was tipped off that this is how the other guy was going to open/play this particular game and he decided to study it, that would make more sense to me, but that also doesnt seem like cheating to me, that seems like magnus told somebody and that person has loose lips

I guess maybe if he spied on him or something to find that out, that would be cheating, but thats as baseless as the anal beads right now
