This is beyond a joke. As of late America has been trying to tell African Nations what to do. Before that America was like you better not trade with with Russia .Now Africa who doesn't have that much emissions at all is getting lectured to by America.

Developing nations will never listen to a rich nation's calls to curb emissions. And why should they, really? The rich nations have been getting fat and rich since the industrial revolution, everyone else feels it's their turn to grow their GDP

Asking exploited countries who are just now getting off the ground to forgo the emissions they view as essential to development...that's a nonstarter among nonstarters and will be viewed as eco-colonialism.

The cut is gonna have to come from new tech and cuts in the developed countries, if cuts are part of the solution.

per-capita really isn't the best metric for "overall reduction". Canada at 35million people at that rate is not as bad as japan with 2/3rds the rate and 4x the people. That's nearly twice the amount of overall emissions

When is America going to cut down on emissions? Why arent gas guzzler vehicles already banned years ago? Not just a commitment to ban the sale of new gas cars in 10 years.

It's one of the reasons I found it hard to find fault when Brazil was clearing the rainforest to make room for more cattle. Kind of hard to point fingers when America was allowed to clear shit tons of forests centuries ago when no one even had a thought of a thought that that might impact things.

Like yeah it clearly sucks on the large scale, but can you really blame them for trying to get ahead with what they have?

It's funny that America would ask Africa to curb, but it would be good for developing areas to have emission controls set during development, rather than after.

Meaning
"We'll not reduce emissions until 2049 ends and then we'll say there's not enough time to meet the goal"

And even if we did meet that 2050 goal, we're so screwed already that it's like someone speeding off a cliff then finally hitting the brakes after you're already in free fall. Or rather, the elderly people who are driving have jumped out and then hit a button to lock the passenger doors while those of us in it have to live and die through the results.
