The casual viewer is generally too stupid to distinguish between them though.

Case in point: Genshin Impact recently introduced a loli who, among other things, is a hugely successful entrepreneur and is a long-time acquaintance with one of the adults.

Loli's and real children are not the 1-1 you think it is. Just because a adult is attracted to the former does not mean they are the latter. Nor are they a gateway even.

Which is the most important aspect of this. And why I personally don't care, they aren't living things to be abused in any capacity, nor do they promote the abuse of real children. So it makes little sense to me why people get so emotional over 2D images.

Weird to defend people being sexually attracted to animated 9 year olds by saying that people are too emotional over fictional images. Anyone who finds animated children sexually attractive is fucked up and it absolutely reflects their real world feelings. It's only "okay" in the sense that we aren't going to jail them since they aren't hurting real people

If there was a child in an anime that wasn't being sexualized it would be nice if you would call them a child. Do you really need another word for it that's based on a book about a pedophile? I watch a lot of anime but I've never been comfortable with that. If the word doesn't imply sexualization, why does a second word for children even need to exist?

I personally agree. I know I said earlier in the topic "As an anime fan, lolis are ok as long as they are not sexualized. A kid should be a kid" because I've got used to seeing loli for young girls and shota for young boys and just go along with it without thinking, but I really shouldn't do that. It lumps me together with the kind of people I detest. As an anime fan, I'm fine with child characters as long as they are not sexualized. A kid should be a kid.

I regret posting in this topic. Not to say there isn't some informative posts, like the one ellis123 made, but there really shouldn't be a nuanced discussion regarding this anymore. It's really getting into the creepy category. It's like that one topic on the anime/manga board where people were making claims that Marjuanna is worst than CP because people have gotten harsher punishments in Japan for drugs than CP.

I only watched like 2 episodes... I don't have a reason for dropping it but I don't really get a lot out of watching shows because there is too much to keep track of

I'd rather they be defensive and in denial than open and smug. The ones who are open and smug about it tend to be literal Nazis, because Nazis are the only people who will accept pedophiles and their ideology the only one that will accommodate their violent, entitled, smug nature. Of course she's going to be small and young looking. Maybe I'm just desensitized but are people just naturally just bitchy about everything these days? I didn't get a hard on the entire time I played that game I just thought "oh cute" but everybody on reddit was bitching about its "loli" artstyle. I was flabbergasted. Flabbergasted I say.

See I don't even like the whole loli thing and I feel some people are mistaking child characters for them sometimes, seeing something that isn't there. But it's them and the people who want the child characters to be called lolis seeing it. Everyone else just sees a tiny magic fairy.
